BigDK415 Posted March 29, 2016 Posted March 29, 2016 I fish Long Island, NY, and wanted to know what are some must have baits for this time of year? 1 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted March 29, 2016 Super User Posted March 29, 2016 I like to throw spinnerbaits, square bills, walker/popper style topwaters, and senkos for prespawn. Same stuff for spawn, if I'm not fishing beds. Bed fishing is a whole different thing. Drop baits, like jigs and pegged t-rig plastic critters work best for me. 1 Quote

Pretty much the same here.........substitute chatterbaits and/or swim jigs for the spinnerbait, and frogs for the topwater for me, and add that to your squarebills and senkos and that's my "list"...............If I am looking at them on beds, 99% of the time anymore it's with a dropshot rod in my hand, at least for brown ones. 1 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted March 29, 2016 Super User Posted March 29, 2016 If it gets sloppy early in the year, I'll go to frogs, too. Depends on the lake. Some stay clear, some get sloppy early. I forget about all the chatterbaits in my boxes. I'll try to remember them. They're fun to fish. Quote
HookdUP Posted March 29, 2016 Posted March 29, 2016 A trick worm , I still throw a one knocker a lot through pre spawn and spawn, swim jig , walking bait and last but not least a square bill Quote

Every now and then, I go out to middle island. I've always used 5" senkos but I'm trying to use more things. Quote
Super User Scott F Posted March 30, 2016 Super User Posted March 30, 2016 Suspending jerkbaits for pre-spawn all the way to when they lock on the beds and stop feeding. I don't fish for bass on their beds so I don't know what works then. 2 Quote
BigDK415 Posted March 30, 2016 Author Posted March 30, 2016 Scott, we can't fish from May1 thought the first Saturday in June. I just figured same area when looking to bed Quote
IndianaFinesse Posted March 30, 2016 Posted March 30, 2016 A suspending jerkbait is a must for pre-spawn fishing. And I would highly recommend the Ned rig for year round, nearly any condition fishing. Other than that, looks like you will have more than enough baits. Quote
