Im gonna order the material to make my own rod sleeves.  Im curious if any of you guys do your own and what size your using.  I was looking at 3/4" but measured a few of the ones I have and they look to be around 7/8".

I'd be interested to see how they turn out. I need to pick some up for the rod locker.

Made 20 of these years ago and I'm still using a handful of them now. I didn't use a hot knife or a piece of copper. Just scissors, heat shrink, and a lighter.

Yeah, for sure. I paid $40 for a 100ft roll and made 20. That makes them $2ea. I sold them for $5ea and kept some for myself that ended up being free in the end.  I use some from a different company now but I order them long and cut them to the exact length I want for the rod it's going on and sew it back up like new.

ok I wasn't sure and ordered 1in because the specs were the same as the rod gloves.  wonder if I should cancel it

It's a woven material so it has a bit of stretch to it. You'll be fine with the 1" though. I went with 3/4 because most of my rods are semi micro guides. The ones I bought are 1" and fit fine on all my rods.

1in worked out good

I looked into making my own but decided it wasnt worth the time. I buy them from KDS. They are thinner than a standard rod glove but I like that.. I use them for ease of removing rods in rod locker, not for protection so the thinner shell is less weight on my stacked rods. They usually sell them for $4 each in the "grab bag" format, as in you cant choose a color. Again.. they are in my rod locker, I don't care what color they are. With shipping they usually come out to less than $5 each depending on quantity.

Cant beat that, I had a bunch of sleeves I did not like.  Eyes popping out, tips busting through, length not right.  So to me it was well worth it, I paid under 4$ a sleeve and took maybe 5 minutes each if that.  They turned out awesome!
