dam0007 Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 Few questions on these Daiwas. Is the SV spool pretty much meant for finesse? Or meant for finesse in other reels like the SS? With the Zillion and say ... Jerkbaits, is the general consensus to get the regular spool or go ahead and get the sv spool model? Both spool types are available in all the ratios and they're the same price. Im asking because I'm thinking about changing over from one reel type to all Zillions on my treble hook rods. Cranks, jerks, top water etc. the Daiwa world is confusing as hell still getting used to it and everytime I think I got a general understanding of the line up they release 20 different models with the same or similar names lol annoying but I think it adds the fun to it for us gear addicts lol any General insight to practical applications will be appreciated!!!!! Super User kickerfish1 Posted March 28, 2016 Super User Posted March 28, 2016 You may want to list the exact models you are considering getting? The SV reels aren't true BFS reels nor are they meant for casting extreme distances. They are more geared for user friendliness when casting normal sized baits. Also keep in mind the SV 103 and Zillion SV reels haven't been out all that long so odds are not a lot folks have their mitts on them. If you are on the fence buy one and fish it before you sell your other reels. It may or may not meet your expectations. Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted March 28, 2016 Super User Posted March 28, 2016 You mention 'regular' spool. That could be an og zillion and if so. It's a great reel but the stock spool performs best with baits over 3/8oz. There are a handful or spool options though to make it a more all purpose reel. That however adds another $70 to your purchase price. You then have the zillion tws which is an expensive Tatula basically according to most. Then you mention the sv spool models. You have the Sv103 which looks like an updated og zillion and the new tws zillion sv. I've heard nothing but good things about the sv103. The other hasn't been out long but initial feedback is also good. A reel is just a storage device for line and it really doesn't matter if you're throwing treble baits or jigs and worms. The sv105 or the new Tatula ct might be worth looking into also. What is it exactly that you're looking for in a reel? As mentioed the sv spools aren't meant for long bombing casts. They do provide trouble free casting though and some cast a bit better than others. Quote
Super User Raul Posted March 28, 2016 Super User Posted March 28, 2016 There are deep SV spools, I got a couple for my 105H TDZs. Quote
dam0007 Posted March 28, 2016 Author Posted March 28, 2016 I'm specifically talking about, looking at the Zillion TWS and Zillion TWS SV. my mistake if I wasn't specific enough. Basically between these 2 models. I'll want 6 of them for my moving bait rods. (2) 5:1 for cranking (2) 6:1 for jerkbaits (2) 7:1 for topwater and several other applications I'm wondering if I should be looking at the regular spool models for cranks and sv spool models for the other 4. Small jerkbaits especially. Quote

Hogsticker Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 I don't understand the amount of caution over 20 yards of line. Lots of threads pertaining to concern of SV reels line capacity, and if reels such as the Zillion SV TW and SV103 are finesse only. These reels hold plenty of line to do whatever you want. The SV spool is simply going to allow greater versatility in terms of casting capabilities. As for the 2 reels you're considering, different size though not by much. This combined with the SV spool make the SV TW a no brainer in my book. You could get the standard version for cranks, but if you're getting 6 I'd keep it all the same. SV spools aren't great on distance, but with small to medium sized cranks I think you'll still see better results, easier casting, and greater accuracy if that's important. 1 Quote

I didn't even know there was a capacity difference. I'm gonna order 2 this week and take it from there gotta sell the ones I'm replacing. Edit update: i just realized the TWS SV zillion is the Tatula CT frame lol so they're compact? Lol they couldn't make this easy lol Quote
Hogsticker Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 Myself, I don't consider them compact, however it is a compacted version of the Tatula. The side plate is actually interchangeable. I think they raised the reel foot by 2 cm, so it sits closer to the rod, and decreased the overall width by 3 cm. Obviously it has the smaller T Wing in it. And yes, the Tatula CT and Zillion SV TW are the same reel aside from the free floating SV spool, 1 extra bearing possibly on the level wind, and the Zillion has 4 cr bearings. 1 Quote

That clarified a few things for me. Quote
