I wanted to try these heads because I'm tired of gluing my baits on my regular heads and the barb looked cool. The barb is fine, but I had iss si es getting a good hookset, having a hook straightened with 8lb Red Label and the weedguards being overly stiff. I'm not sure if I'm the only one with these issues, but I was highly dissatisfied with them. The hooks didn't penetrate beyond the barb and literally fell out into my hand.

Hmm... I haven't had any problems at all with the shroomz, except for the keeper falling off eventually.  I would recommend trying the non-weedless style because it tends to hook fish better, although I have used the weedless version with some success.  The hooks on mine have always been razor sharp, so maybe you just got a bad batch.

agree that the keeper falls off somewhat easily, but otherwise have no issues at all with them.  they are a very light wire hook so you really have to have that drag set right or you can pull them out no doubt.

Are you setting the hook with force? What rod are you using? Remember, those are light wire hooks, you can land 7lbers on them without bending but the right tackle is important. Your line, rod, and reel all play a part. I use 6lb and 8lb line when using jigs with Aberdeen hooks and with 8lb line you need to make sure your drag is set n the loose side.

small hooks, tighten up is usually all the hook set I use - been doing it for many years no problems - I don't like to use stiff rods with small hooks.

I'm not thrilled with glue, either.  However, since I switched to Outkast Money heads, I'm ok with the glue.  These heads have just been so much more satisfactory to me.  They hold their shape and point even when pulling them out of wood all day.  They aren't the lightest wire, but they fish like it; they don't need to be driven home.

Never had a problem with the Shroomz head. I still put a dab of glue at the head. I use 7# Sniper with a Lews med. action rod.

yep, it's almost just a reel set for me with these smaller hooks.  also helped me a ton when i picked up a Powell Inferno Light action rod.  That light action helps me with the hook sets on the ned rig.

I use the Gulp Jigheads, Sliders, and Shrooms, and my favorite is a light 1/16 Trokar saltwater boxer jig...I texas rig a half zinker and the saltwater hook is much stronger for heavy cover since I rarely get a chance to fish an open Jig worm...

I usually rig a small light wire worm hook in size #1 EWG and crimp a bull shot in 1/32 or 1/16 right above the hook, add half a zinker that is soaked so it floats, and I find I do just as well with the Bull shot...I actually tie a loop knot to the worm hook and leave the shot an inch higher so it is almost a swing type jig action if I am "Strolling it"...I use the Z-Man Grubz the most lately...Earlier in the year I liked the finesse worms cut the best but the Z-Man heads are not good if you have structure around and need to tighted the drag..The heavier hooks can kill the action, but I have played around to where I can use the "NED Rig  Concept" on 14lb test so I can go 100% weedless, the Trokar Saltwater boxer jigs are perfect for weedless texas rigs as well....1/16 is my favorite since with the hook it is closer to 1/12.

Not sure what rod you are using or how you are setting the hook/playing the fish? Sounds like you are putting too much heat on them. The hook seeming to not penetrate may be it initially penetrating and then working its way out because you are putting too much tension on the light wire hook, making the hole bigger. I can't imagine hook penetration being an issue with that hook unless someone was not exposing enough hook when they rigged the bait in the first place, or just wasn't ready for the fish to bite and didn't reel up on it well enough to get a good set.

Guess I jynxed myself, what weight bass does it take to break a shroomz jig, guess I'll never know because as I grabbed the line to lift it from the water the d**n shroomz broke plus I had 2 straighten out, I am seriously disappointed.

I've found the hooks on schroomz heads to be brittle, so I pour my own heads now using VMC and Eagle claw Lil nasty hooks. They will bend out of snags rather than snapping. I don't like hooks that snap.
