Have fun !

If you haven't seen it yet - Avail just came out with an aluminum line guide and cap for the 1500/1600/2500/2600C Ambassadeurs that is about 1/3 the weight of the stock parts. I just got three sets in the other day and already have one installed on a 2500C.

The 2600C that I got on eBay was a GREAT buy, It was a mint condition 2600C (not a scratch on it) AND, it came with about $265 worth of tuning parts (and also included all removed stock parts). The reel came with:

  • Avail deep spool
  • ZPI 4bb handle w/Daiwa-style knobs
  • 2bb cog wheel
  • 1bb level wind kit
  • Ceramic spool bearings
  • Carbontex drag washers
  • Ceramic pawl

Mint condition 2600C and $265 of tuning parts - my winning bid on eBay was $222 !

Hey Hootie - sorry we're drifting off your original topic...figured you wouldn't mind...;)

That's a hell of a deal! I pucked up a ZPI Morrum AE74 cheap,so a good deal does come around once in a blue moon. I've seen those line guides, and plan on picking up a few. I already have the SIC bearings, and dual bearing cog wheel. I'll probably add an Avail spool, and swept star drag wheel, and a carbon fiber handle.

Here are the "before" and "after" parts of a recent 2500C hop-up:

I've become a huge fan of round reels as of late.  They just feel good in the hand.

Been saying that for years!  They keep making low profiles, lower and lower but wider and wider.  To a point there is less to hold on to and the palming plate is farther from the rod.

Goose, can I ask where you got a carbon handle that has the recess cut to allow you to use it on older Abu's?  Japan Tackle told me I couldn't use theres on 2500's and I think Hawtechs are to thick too....

Mike's Reel Repair in Canada. I was ordering a couple ceramic pawls and noticed that they had the handle, with the recess, for $50.  It's carbon fiber, has 4 bb, and meaty EVA knobs.  Maybe not the classiest CF handle but it fits and I needed a handle anyway. The 2500 in the above photo had a bent Daiwa handle on it when I bought it...

ALSO - I see where Mike's has lowered the price of their 2-bb cog wheel to a dirt-cheap $19.95 USD. I have never seen one in person so can't comment on how it works but the price is now $10 cheaper than the lightened Avail unit sold at Hedgehog...

Like those meaty Revo type knobs. I get the 2bb cogs from hookless for 15 and the bearings are ceramic hybrid.

This is what happens when you have time, access to parts!

On the right-side reel - looks like you scored the grooved "Nostalgia" sideplates from the 1998/1999 production. It mostly looks like the factory Nostalgia reel except for the chrome frame and handle...

Good eye Goose52,the handle was made special for me by my good friend Simon Shimomura Mr.Ambassadeur.  The reel on the left is also built with hard to find parts. I was able to get the 2500CDL parts from a seller on EBAY. I'm hoping to find more Nostalgia side plates so I can build a few more reels. The only problem is finding IAR brake plates.

The only CDL stuff I have is the complete, factory, teal CDL from the 2012 run:

I've built my own CDL's. I have a 2500C, a 4500,2 4500C's, a 4600C, and a Silver Record 5000. Big thanks to Simon for making all the parts for me.
