Sbauer Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 Hey guys. Recently, at the beginning of this season, I haven't been able to catch anything (especially bass) anywhere. Not even really getting bites or seeing fish. Anyone else having this experience? I've tried all my normal set ups, different ponds and lakes, and different baits. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 27, 2016 Global Moderator Posted March 27, 2016 I've been catching fish, but the size and normal numbers have been lacking. I don't know if it's the fish or me because I've really just felt lost the last month or so on the water. 1 Quote
Tygaiser7 Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 I've been out 6 or 7 times and have only caught 3 small bass. Doesn't help that the water temps are still really cold here in Michigan. This is my first year every fishing this early and I'm also having a hard time finding them. Don't really know where to start! 1 Quote

Smokinal Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 I've been having huge trouble early myself as I can't seem to get out on the water.... 2 Quote

Super User kickerfish1 Posted March 28, 2016 Super User Posted March 28, 2016 Our biggest problem this year seems to be highly fluctuating temps. We have hit 70 as well as 30s in the same week sometimes just a few days apart. Add in the fact the water clarity just hasn't been there and it has been tough sledding. I haven't really caught much at all on my local waters but did do pretty well going out of state to fish! Quote
Tygaiser7 Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 Yeah I've caught a few here and there around here but a couple were in 4 ft of water and the other was in 15 ft of water. I can not for the life of me establish a pattern. I don't even really know what to throw. I've tried everything from lipless cranks to senkos Quote

You should really check out some of the gravel pits. 1 Quote

You should really check out some of the gravel pits. Most are either private or on the opposite end of the state. I am not sure where exactly you are referring to? The better fishing in NE takes place on the central to western portion. That is a minimum of a 3-7 hour drive. Quote
IndianaFinesse Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 It was in a public gravel pit near a tiny town called ainsworth, which is about an hours drive from valentine. Quote

Don't really know where to start! My first time bass fishing this early in michigan as well haven't caught anything yet. It just fells good to be off the couch and on the water. If you start hammering them let me know what depth they are 1 Quote

Wally Corder Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 NW indiana "La Porte" clear lake is starting to come alive. Caught a couple little guys 1.5-2lbrs shore-throwin a weighted hook and green watermelon worm bouncin' in. Top water hasn't been any good yet though. Quote
Fish the Mitt Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 I'll admit, my boats still in the barn... Ill probably start getting out later this week. The weekend of April 9th should be the kickoff for me up here. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 28, 2016 Global Moderator Posted March 28, 2016 We got more snow yesterday on Easter than we've had all the rest of the year combined. That should help the bite, right?! 4 Quote

Hurricane Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 I just caught my first Largemouth of the year on Saturday after a couple outings of catching nothing... Just have to remind myself that I live in Buffalo and its still March.. 15 hours ago, Smokinal said: I've been having huge trouble early myself as I can't seem to get out on the water.... Kbral87 Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 I have only been out a couple of times this year, but so far its just been small bass. Its a little frustrating but a small bass is better than no bass. Quote

No, the Ned rig is a small mushroom style head that usually weighs 1/15 ounce or less with either half of a zinkerz, a trd, or a hula stickz. There are others, but these are by far the most effective. You want to use either the gopher tackle mushroom head or the z-man shroomz with it. Z-man's plastics are different than others, they float, are nearly indestructible, and are the softest plastic on the market. They are so indestructible that it it not uncommon to catch over 200 fish before getting to torn up to use, and I have personally never had one get to torn up to use. The Ned rig doesn't look like much, but it flat out catches fish. The Ned rig was designed with the goal of catching 100 or more bass in a four hour trip, and it's devotees do so fairly regularly. It mostly catches small bass, but it will catch all sizes of fish, last week I caught and weighed an 8.2 pound bass on the z-man trd. Quote
