Hello, my name is Zachary Nute. This resume is in regards to a sponsorship request. I would love to promote and teach anglers of all age about your line of products and I would love to donate my time and services to any of your company’s needs. Also to add an avenue for any advertisement, and promotional needs of your company.

My main purpose is to promote your company’s products while on the tournaments trails that I fish. I will also promote you on my social media sites which are as followed: Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and National Pro Staff(NPS). But I have a strong work ethic instilled in me by my parents, and I know I can be a strong asset to your team.

Current Sponsors:
Denali Fishing Rods
IMA Lures
Reins Fishing
Optimum Baits
SpoolTek Lures
EuroTackle

My aspirations in life is to ultimately become a professional angler. But I would also enjoy being a seminar instructor, or just working at any of your booths across the United States. It would be a dream of mine to show off one of my favorite companies. It would bring me joy to help promote a company, and watch people refer to your company to other anglers.

I just recently landed my career in December of 2014 and it’s what I went to school for. I currently work atGeneral Dynamics Electric Boat in New London, CT, where I work as an Electrical Cableway Submarine Draftsman. I work for the government, where negotiating is a huge aspect of my job. We need to be able to sell a certain product to the US Navy. I have become pretty good at my job and believe that I could be a great asset to your company.

I have fished open tournaments for a couple of years now, I also fish a B.A.S.S club which has 12 tournaments, and in October I’m fishing a tournament to qualify for the state team. My goal is to climb the knowledge ladder and hopefully start fishing the B.A.S.S Opens within the next 3 years.

Tournament Accomplishments:

2015:

B.A.S.S Club
Ashland Pond- 1st Place
Gorton Pond- 1st Place
Quaddick Reseroir- 1st Place

Thursday Night Trail
Long Pond- 5th Place

Wednesday Night Trail
Quinebaug River- 3rd Place
Amos Lake- 2nd Place

Weekend Trail
Pachaug Pond-2nd Place

Thayer's Marine Weekend Trail:
Quinebaug River- 1st Place
Quinebaug River- 3rd Place
Candlewood Lake- 6th Place

This year I will be fishing the following trails:
- B.A.S.S Open on Oneida Lake
-CT B.A.S.S Federation
-Greater Hartford Bass Club

Thank you for taking the time to look through my resume'. I hope to hear from you soon.

Sincerely,

Zachary Nute

In my opinion it reads more like a cover letter than a resume.   There are several grammatical mistakes and some sentence structure errors.  I would not recommend a list of companies that you currently represent, may give the impression that you are too busy to properly represent company X.

Don't mean to sound harsh

I agree that it reads like a cover letter, but that may not be a bad thing.  I might separate it into 2 parts.  Cover letter and then a true resume of your accomplishments.  May or may not be beneficial to list how many spots were in each of these tournaments (1st/25 boats or 200 boats, etc.)  I agree completely that you should take out current sponsors, instead maybe something like "current sponsors and/or references available upon request"

Not sure what you're trying to say on that last part of this sentence:

It would bring me joy to help promote a company, and watch people refer to your company to other anglers.

I wouldn't say recently landed, 15 months or so ago.  In general, i think you could do a little better on this paragraph.  Explain where you went to school, where you graduated in terms of GPA and all that.  Then elaborate a bit on what about this job would make you a better asset than someone with another occupation (i.e. time on the water, around fishermen, etc.)

let me finish by saying, this is honestly one of the better "fishing resumes" i've read on this site.  i think you could fine tune it a bit and really have a very legitimate resume to present to companies.  I do not tournament fish, do not have nor seek any sponsors, but i appreciate your passion and drive to do so yourself.  i wish you much luck with it!

Okay, just so you know Zach, this is just an observation and I'm going to approach this from the other side of the table.

#1  Where did you go to school?  What year did you graduate?  Any degrees?

#2  Okay, so you did good last year.....what else have you done?  Any ABA, BFL, FLW, College Fishing, Highschool fishing success?

#3 Why should I look at you?  What value do you bring?  How many followers do you have? How are you going to travel around the US representing my brand if you have a full time job you just started 15 months ago?

#4  Already mentioned above, grammar errors.  You send me that, well I'm going to file it next to my desk of important papers headed for the dumpster.  Spellcheck....use it.

#5  It does read like a cover letter, go research resumes online and work on it.

#6  I wouldn't list companies either you already have for the reasons listed prior.

It's a start and things may come with hard work.  I'd get involved in the bigger tournaments and get noticed, network, make yourself known to the people in the industry.  If you have as much success in the bigger tournament trails then you will get noticed and approached by the companies you're looking for.  Use those points and questions above to help improve your resume.  But the biggest seller is going to be you  and your results in the bigger tournament trails.

Hi Zachary,

Social Media presence. All that maters. How well you fish not important. Only contact companies you like to use. Buy their stuff promote the crap out of it and build your brand which is you and brands will come to you. Get noticed.

"I would love to promote and teach anglers of all age about your line of products and I would love to donate my time and services to any of your company’s needs."

I'd change this to a more present tense. Rather than saying you would promote if you got sponsored, it should be coming across like it's something you're already doing and want to do more.

A lot of the background information on you is good but like others have said is better reserved for a cover letter.

The tournaments you fish and the places you've finished are good but what's really important is the exposure. Having a picture published or an article written about the product is more valuable than a top 3 finish or a win. Placing well helps establish credibility but it's not what moves products unless you're winning Classics or major events.

" I will also promote you on my social media sites which are as followed: Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and National Pro Staff(NPS)."

The most important thing is the exposure and I don't see it listed.  How many followers, whats your engagement? The measurable's are what's important. It's already a given you'll promote sponsors so just tell them about who it's reaching and how many people.

Just remember Pro Staff is promotional staff, promotion is #1 and everything else is second for the most part.
