Super User Jar11591 Posted June 21, 2017 Super User Posted June 21, 2017 Looks like I've picked a good year to go see a Rockies game. I'll be in Denver for a week in September so I'm going to catch a game at Coor's field while I'm there.  Soon I'd really like to get down to Atlanta to see the new Suntrust Park. I've heard it's beautiful! But I'll probably wait until this "rebuild" is completed. Unfortunately that may not be until Hart and Copalella are gone. 1 Quote

Super User Jigfishn10 Posted June 21, 2017 Super User Posted June 21, 2017  Yeah, they put Panda on the DL for "inner ear infection". Pretty bad when you had a switch hitter and they pinch hit for him the other night, not to mention they put in a catcher at 3rd for "defensive" purposes late in the game. What a wasted free agent.  I think Price will turn it around, I really do. He'll have Tommy John over the off-season and Rick P needs to get his sinker down in the zone. I think by the All Star break, he'll get that worked out.  @Jar11591, you're gonna love Coors field! I loved my 2 summer trips to Colorado! 2 Quote
Super User deaknh03 Posted June 21, 2017 Super User Posted June 21, 2017 Im thinking the panda is gonna have a real long recovery for that ear infection.. 2 Quote

One of the largest payrolls in MLB and one of the worst records in the American league. They'll get rid of everybody but the Ausmus and the front office and Miggy because he's getting paid $28 mil. per year and can't stay healthy for a month strait.   Their AAA farm team an hour from me already clinched a playoff spot, MOVE 'EM UP. Just like with the Red Wings their farm team again an hour from me won the AHL Calder Cup but the wings suck. Tangent over, thanks for lending me your shoulder. I can't understand the Tigers, their line-up looks really good, is it lack of arms? Bullpen? Just now, deaknh03 said: Im thinking the panda is gonna have a real long recovery for that ear infection.. The Tigers have had bullpen issues forever that's why the last 2 times they were in the WS they blew it. Age is another issue. When the pitching is good they get no run support at all, but when the starting pitcher goes out and gives up 7 runs in the first inning they'll keep up. If they're up 6 runs in the 7th or 8th inning then the bullpen comes in and the Tigers lose by 4.   This has been an on going thing forever. Then add the Lions, now the Red Wings, and Pistons and its no wonder why there's a brewery on every corner and now distilleries are popping up all over too. Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted June 26, 2017 Super User Posted June 26, 2017 I always tell my little league kids to get in front of the ball because I can't stand the Ole' play. I ran across this and got a good laugh out of it. I forgot that David Ross did this.  1 Quote

Super User Jigfishn10 Posted June 26, 2017 Super User Posted June 26, 2017 OMG @A-Jay, I totally forgot all about that, you're right! Â Ross and Ryan Dempster were both characters on that team... 1 Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted July 5, 2017 Super User Posted July 5, 2017 David Price is wearing out his welcome fast. Betcha he's on the trading block if he has another tirade?   http://mlb.nbcsports.com/2017/07/01/report-david-price-confronted-dennis-eckersley-on-a-team-flight/ 1 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted July 5, 2017 Super User Posted July 5, 2017 I saw that too @Jigfishn10 Considering the way he's been pitching a little better lately (which may be a result of the schedule more than anything else) as well as the way the team handled this, the second such incident, (that we know of) I'm thinking the organization / team feels 'they handled it' and may be willing to ride out the storm at least through this season. But if the man repeats his "I choke big time in the playoffs" performance - I'd imagine they would entertain eating some of his ridiculous contract (which I never liked) and perhaps move is 'sensitive' hide out of Boston.   On a side note - seems if Price would listen to coaching and / or figure out how to get some speed variation between pitches (cutter, splitter, something) rather than throwing EVERYTHING HARD - and With No Command - he'd stop getting Lite Up ! I'm not bitter however, because it's been a ton of fun being a Red Sox fan this past 10 days or so - WOW. It's not how you start though . . . . . .  A-Jay 1 Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted July 5, 2017 Super User Posted July 5, 2017 From what I read, the team was 9!$$ed. I hope you're right @A-Jay, the boys of summer are playing great ball now, just need to address the 'pen and 3rd base. Â That 3rd baseman in Texas would be a good fit, too bad they can't get guys like that? Oh, wait... 1 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted July 5, 2017 Super User Posted July 5, 2017 Â Maybe Mikey Lowell is up for a come back ? A-Jay 1 Quote

Super User A-Jay Posted July 5, 2017 Super User Posted July 5, 2017 LOL ~ He was a STUD ! ( and you're either a heck of a historian or an old guy like me )  @Jigfishn10 - But I don't think he'd like all the 'new' "don't slide into me because I'm frail" rules . . .  A-Jay 1 Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted July 5, 2017 Super User Posted July 5, 2017 More like "an old guy like me", @A-Jay. Â '75 was the year I really got into baseball as a kid and Rico was the 3rd baseman that year...He!! of a world series that year BTW... Â I agree, the new rules are really watering down the sport. The long games aren't bad enough, but these new rules are just driving the sport into the ground. No wonder why the sport can't attract a younger crowd. 2 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted July 5, 2017 Super User Posted July 5, 2017 Â @Jigfishn10 ~ Yup - I'm waiting for the catchers to start texting the pitches after every PITCH ! A-Jay 2 Quote

A-Jay Part of the reason Price left Detroit was because he "didn't like" Detroit the city not the team and apparently made peoples live miserable in the club house. If memory serves me correctly the trade left some scratching their heads like "that's all we got for Price?" His attitude might explain why.   Just like a few years before that Avisial (guaranteed wrong spelling) Garcia was quietly traded to the White Sox because he supposedly was caught with his hand in the cookie jar at Prince Fielder's house. The Tigers have bad luck with promising players. Oh well they're unstoppable now. ? 1 Quote
mllrtm79 Posted July 5, 2017 Posted July 5, 2017 I took my gf over to the game on Monday evening in DC. I really thought that the Mets would pull it off at the end, but not so much. Really good seats and a great day for baseball, even as much as it hurt to wear blue instead of Phillies red (she's a Met's fan) but she was happy... did I mention that they were great seats? 2 Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted July 5, 2017 Super User Posted July 5, 2017 Nice @mllrtm79, looks like a beautiful stadium. I can sympathize with you about the blue outerwear, I haven't been a Met fan since '86...  I think Price wants the money of a big market team but play for a small market team @12poundbass, unfortunately the 2 don't usually coexist. 1 Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted July 10, 2017 Super User Posted July 10, 2017 Well we're at the halfway point and it's been an interesting season so far. The surprises to me so far have been the:  Rays - Never thought their pitching would hold up and they seem to always get that clutch hit Twins - Second place despite the fact they have a negative runs differential Astros - I knew they were talented, but 60 wins by the all star break...are you kidding me? BTW, check out their road record? Braves - Seriously, did you think they'd be around .500 by the all star break? I figured they'd be just ahead of Philly Brew Crew - Sorry, I didn't see this coming. Let's hope they can keep it up. It's always good to see new teams contending. Cubs - I knew there would be a World Series hang over, but I thought they'd still be over .500 by the break. Only 5.5 gms back, still time to turn it on. D-Backs and Rockies - By far the biggest surprise teams to me. Too bad they play in the same division as the Dodgers. Giants - What happened?  So, who's teams are buying and selling? Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted July 12, 2017 Super User Posted July 12, 2017 I usually don't watch the All Star game, but my 12 y/o son wanted to watch both the Home Run Derby and All Star Game. I will admit that this was the first ASG I've enjoyed watching in this millennium. Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted July 15, 2017 Super User Posted July 15, 2017 Walk off win with a walk tonight ~ Heck of a way to begin the second half of the season No doubt, NY gave this one away ~ we'll take it though -Â Â A-Jay 1 Quote
