Super User Jigfishn10 Posted July 4, 2023 Super User Posted July 4, 2023 Red Sox are a half game in front of their grapefruit league arch rival, the Twins.   That about sums up the first half season for the Sox. 1 Quote
throttleplate Posted July 5, 2023 Posted July 5, 2023 Orioles in dire need of pitching and hitting as both have dryed up. Here comes another rookie with power to help with the run production.   Source: Cowser joining Orioles in New York By Roch Kubatko Orioles July 04, 2023, 9:01pm  NEW YORK – Colton Cowser finally got the phone call. The organization’s No. 2 prospect is joining the Orioles in New York, according to a source. The club is expected to select his contract from Triple-A Norfolk. Space must be cleared on the 40-man roster, and the Orioles could make other moves prior to Wednesday night’s game against the Yankees. What’s certain is that Cowser, ranked No. 14 among baseball’s prospects by MLB Pipeline, is in position to make his major league debut. Cowser wasn’t in Norfolk’s lineup tonight. He’s batting .330/.459/.537 with 10 doubles, a triple, 10 home runs, 40 RBIs and 48 walks in 56 games. The Orioles selected Cowser fifth-overall in 2021 out of Sam Houston State. He’s accumulated 381 plate appearance at Triple-A in two seasons, slashing .292/.420/.500 in 83 games. Executive vice president/general manager Mike Elias said recently in a MASN interview that Cowser had nothing left to prove and was just waiting on a call. He got it. Cowser’s arrival coincides with a difficult stretch of the season, with the Orioles losing six of their last seven games. They scored three runs in the three-game series against the Twins in the final homestand before the All-Star break, rallying Sunday to avoid their first sweep since May 2022, and have lost twice to the Yankees. The Rays lost their third game in a row today to keep the Orioles six back for the division lead, but the Yankees have moved within two of second place. The skid hasn’t wiped out the excitement over the talent pipeline’s flooding of the major league roster. Infielder Jordan Westburg earned his promotion on June 26, allowing him to join former No. 1 prospect Gunnar Henderson and catcher Adley Rutschman, the first-overall selection in the 2019 draft. The Orioles have eight players in MLB Pipeline’s top 100, with Single-A Delmarva catcher Samuel Basallo added today. Shortstop Jackson Holliday, the first-overall selection in last year’s draft, is No. 1 overall. Cowser is 14th, Westburg 32nd, outfielder Heston Kjerstad 38th, shortstop Joey Ortiz 65th, infielder Connor Norby 68th and third baseman Coby Mayo 77th. Easy to see why the Orioles are regarded as having the No. 1 system in baseball. Cowser is the latest to reach the majors, but he may not be the last in 2023. Kjerstad, the second-overall pick in 2020, and Norby also are possibilities. Ortiz has been up and down this season. Pitcher Grayson Rodriguez, a first-rounder in 2018, is working his way back to the Orioles after another assignment to Norfolk. Rodriguez started tonight and shut out Durham on three hits, no walks and 12 strikeouts in six innings. Quote
throttleplate Posted July 6, 2023 Posted July 6, 2023 The kids are the future in a 6-3 victory over the yankees. Cowser lined an RBI single into right field in the sixth inning after the Orioles put runners on the corners with one out against left-handed reliever Nick Ramirez, and he crossed the plate for the first time on Jordan Westburg’s two-run triple. Dean Kremer struck out a career-high 10 batters in seven innings, and the Orioles won their 50th game, a total they didn’t reach last season until July 28. Félix Bautista stranded an inherited runner and registered the four-out save. Ryan O’Hearn provided breathing room with a two-run homer off Jan Hamilton in the ninth after Adley Rutschman doubled.    1 Quote

Super User BrianMDTX Posted July 9, 2023 Super User Posted July 9, 2023 Umm-m-m…the Baltimore Orioles are two games out of first place in the AL East. After the torrid start by the Rays, who looked to be a solid lock to win a division title in May, Tampa has to be keeping a close watch in the rear view mirror.  The Orioles are a good team. And are looking like a true contender. 2 Quote

Super User BrianMDTX Posted July 9, 2023 Super User Posted July 9, 2023 They are destroying the Twins right now. 12-1…and counting.  One decent starter and I’ll be happy if that’s the only trade they make. They have talent to trade. 2 Quote

We traded him to boston for reliever Andrew Miller in 2014 whom was just a rental for us hoping to get to the world series, we didnt.  1 Quote
Super User gim Posted July 10, 2023 Super User Posted July 10, 2023 I watched about half an hour of the Orioles-Twins game today. When the O’s put up 7 in the 5th, that was enough for me. Went outside and trimmed some bushes instead. A few days ago, I heard a couple Twins fans at work pounding their chest about a home sweep over the Royals. The lowly terrible Royals. Welcome back to reality, Minnesota. 1 Quote
throttleplate Posted July 10, 2023 Posted July 10, 2023 @gimruis First time was today that i saw the Twins new home uniforms. Look much better than the pinstripes of old. I still like the old baby blues. Â I went to a few games in the humpty dome, I miss the plexiglass and the right field baggie, 1 Quote

Jack Morris pitched a shutout into the 10th inning, Probably a feat never to be duplicated ever again. I was living in Levvitown PA. at that time and watched every game rooting for the Twins.   Scott erickson                 1 Quote
