I want to get a Scum Tiny Toad (1") for some really fun topwater action. The problem is, it's only 3/16 oz, and I'm afraid of casting problems on my bait caster with that frog.  Should I add some BB Spilt Shot to weigh it down? I'm afraid the fish with feel the weight when they strike, or that the lure is unbalanced.

thats perfectly fine, some people, including myself, add glass worm rattles to frogs to add weight and sound. For a small frog like yours, make sure you add lots of tiny BB instead of few big ones in order to insure that the frog can still collapse appropriately

I first fished hollow frogs decades ago . I havent fished them much since . Back then I put pieces of plastic worm inside for a little extra casting weight .

better idea wrap a little bit of solder around the hooks on the belly right before they go into the frog

I have that frog and it is tiny but it can be cast on casting gear...I like to add a few tiny split shots as rattles, but as mentioned, wrapping the hooks with wire or suspend dots helps, and also adding a bobber stopper to the front of the nose helps it be more weedless and adds a bit more weight...3/16 is really a 1/4 ounce, you would throw a 1/4 ounce jig on a baitcaster right? Plus you can throw that frog on spinning gear, it is ok to use mono with frogs...The fish are OK with it...In clear water they prefer it, on a frog that size, you could get away with 10lb test easy....I like to keep my line out of the water, and on smaller frogs I will usually not hesitate to throw them on spinning gear or casting gear with 10-15lb mono, or use a mono leader, 25lb if in the heavy stuff, I get more strikes in open water without braid, never had a problem with hooksets on Mono even with big Frogs...I should say Copoly, I use 20lb Hybrid or 25lb Triple Fish Camo line usually...or big game in green depending on water color...I am very picky with line size and color more than I am any other part of the rig....Maybe I am crazy, but I have had days where braid is fine, but some days 25lb copoly leader would get bit 3/1 especially if not on a mat....On a Mat go braid...

Thanks for the replies. I was thinking of using a swivel for more weight, but that will get clogged with algae.

Save your torn up Senkos.  You can break them into small pieces and stuff them into the body.  They will add enough weight to make casting easier, but won't sink the frog.  A plus over split shot is they will compress enough to get a good hook-set.

x2. I do this to most frogs when fishing really thick slop.
