tgat77 Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 I just received my siebert brush jigs man these are the bomb cant wait to fish them...wanted to get some advice from you guys should i trim the skirts and the weed guard? Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted March 22, 2016 Super User Posted March 22, 2016 Leave the skirts alone. They are tied like they should be. The weed guard is of personal preference. I suggest fishing them like they are until you figure out how you like the weed guard. Jeff 4 Quote
Frenchman83 Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 I haven't trimmed anything on my brush jigs. The fish don't mind. Quote
Super User kickerfish1 Posted March 22, 2016 Super User Posted March 22, 2016 +1 on 00Mods suggestion. Also keep in mind that trimming a weedguard from the top only makes it stiffer. You need to thin it out from the bottom up before trimming the top should you go this route. I fish them as is from Mike with no altercations. Matt Allen has a good video on his Tactical Bass'n blog on YouTube about trimming skirts for a textured look and altering wedguards. I would watch those videos. 2 Quote

Super User buzzed bait Posted March 22, 2016 Super User Posted March 22, 2016 i used to trim the weedguards, but haven't in a while and have had no problems with hookups. Siebert makes a great product. Quote
Scarborough817 Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 i've never trimmed a siebert skirt or weed guard and i have never had an issue 1 Quote
Super User Jar11591 Posted March 22, 2016 Super User Posted March 22, 2016 Only thing I do is spread out the weed guard so it's not as stiff. But that certainly isnt necessary. They are my favorite jig. Siebert brush jigs are the jigs I go with 90% of the time. 2 Quote

Personal preferance but I like to slowly bend the brush guard down and then trim just below where the hook barb is . 1 Quote
kcdinkerz Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 I trim skirts only if it stops the trailer from flapping or a paddle tail from pulsing. 1 Quote
Super User senile1 Posted March 22, 2016 Super User Posted March 22, 2016 Mike's jigs are good lures. Between Siebert's brush jigs and the grid-iron football jigs, 90 percent of my jig fishing is covered. And he has jigs to cover the other 10 percent as well. There is no doubt that there are other good jigs that are top notch, but Mike just happens to make a great variety of top notch jigs with a price that is hard to beat. As for adjustments, I trim the skirts only slightly and this is more of a confidence thing for me than any necessity. I have a certain way I like my craw trailers to look on the jig. As for trimming the weed guards, I think that the jigs are more weedless if I leave it alone. If I am setting the hook correctly the full weed guard doesn't seem to cause any issues. 2 Quote
