Making some purchases and going to pick up a NRX 916C for swimbaits and one for A-rig. Going to put Conquest's on both, but want suggestions for sz. Will the 101 handle 2oz. swimbaits like the Mike Bucca's Bull Shad, on what 50lb. braid? And then the 201 for the newer small A-rigs like the 5 arm hogfarmer and 60-80lb. braid? Thanks guys.

I would not throw swimbaits with braid, just heart break waiting to happen

Got it, I overlooked that. Then the 101 won't cover that, the line capacity just won't cut it. So I guess it's 2- 201HG's then. The 6.2 gear ratio will be good, but line capacity is 12/110 and I should be throwing that Bucca Shad on at least 20lb. fluro right? Don't know if that's gonna cut it. I'm new to the bigger hard body swimbaits like that. Need suggestions guys.

I would feel pretty comfortable throwing up to 3 oz stuff on .370 mm nylon or fluorocarbon and I have gone down to .330 mm lines so you should be fine. I would just get the larger conquest if you are going to throw bigger stuffs, more line capacity, making casting more comfortable.

Three things:

1. Don't throw swimbaits on braid

2. The 101 probably doesn't have enough line capacity

3. The 301 may be even better suited for what you want, but the 201 should be okay too.

Just curious, why don't you want to throw swimbaits with braided line?

Would 15-20 lb CXX P-Line work fine?

Braid has no stretch. If you happen to get a backlash during the cast, the heavy weight of the swimbait and the no stretch will snap the braid.

Yea the 201HG will be fine with 2oz. baits. Not sure how much bigger the 301 is in hand but I know it's 3 ounces more at 11 oz. and I want to stay away from that.

There is absolutely no stretch in braid, and they tend to develop a kink no matter what you do, causing random backlash sending your bait flying into the water. 12lb  CXX is a 20lb (.370mm) breaking strength line, and I have been running that no with no problem at all for last season. They will do fine, but I don't like CXX since it doesn't handle well at all in my hands, I would just go with a 20lb P-Line PF original (.380mm) which handles much better.

Having bigger reel is not a bad thing on the rods you are going to fish. They are very very heavy rods, and having a bigger reel to help balance and hold onto will make it less tiring. You do not need 300, unless you are fishing baits consistently over 4 oz imo.

Yea I agree on the 301 being too big and actually ordered the 201HG earlier.

NRX rods are light weight, don't know what the UBR926 umbrella rig rod weighs?

Most NRX casting rods have micro guides, if you plan to use braid with a leader the knot to join the leader could be a problem. Straight braid is a good choice for A-rigs tied direct.

Swimbaits you can use braid tied direct, most prefer using mono and my preference is Sunline 25 lb Diefer Nylon, small diameter with high strength, good knot strength and excellent casting line.

Very high end combo, good luck.

916UBR is rated for 3- 8 oz. It is definitely going to  feel better with a 300 conquest than a 200.

The OP already bought a 201, it's a done deal. I agree 200 series reels don't have the line capacity of mono/FC line if casting big swimbaits over 50 yards, OK for braid. The combo will work for big frogs, punching, 2 to 3 oz swimmers, glides, wake baits and heavier A-rigs.

The conquest isn't a light weight reel and should balance OK with 7'6" NRX rod.

My choice has always been a 300 size series reel for swimbaits for greater line capacity.

I have a Conquest 200 and have the regular gear as well as the HG gear and I love it, so there is no mistake in purchasing it for sure. I had the 200 on Megabass F10-76XBJ and it was just too much of a stick for the reel to work it comfortably. I ended up putting it on a lighter rod, and bought a 400 and couldn't be happier.

If the 201HG is too small I will put it on the 7'11" glx cranking rod cuz need to buy that reel for that rod and will step up to a bigger one for the 916C.

If it's not big enough I will put this on the 7'11" GLX CB rod I need to order and then pick up a 301 for the 916C.
