ksfishinguy Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 Posted this last night but it got taken down because I had 1.3. in the title. I'm interested in pulling the trigger on a 2013 Met, but I was looking for some impressions first. I own several nice reels, Chronarch Ci4's, Chronarch D's, Zillions, ect, but I have read quite a few opinions of the 2013 Met and it seems to be a cut above. My question is to those of you who own it and also fish other premier reels. Where does the latest, non DC Metanium rank from a performance standpoint compared to your other reels? I'm looking for an all around elite performer for no specific application. Should I snap one up before the 16's come out or should I be looking at something else as well. Thanks! Quote
tonesfoyobones Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 Really don't have a bad thing to say about a Metanium. I have several, all newer versions. I have some Steez, Pixy Type R's and some Megabass reels. What really stands out to me with the Metanium vs the others is the absence of backlash's. With the Daiwa's and the Megabass reels you MUST have a nice fluid cast motion once everything is dialed in correctly. If a fish breaks up ahead and is just a little further away than a normal cast and dig deep and really load the rod chances are you're gonna have a backlash. To me Daiwa's do not handle a really hard snap of the rod... unless dialed in tighter. They really like a nice fluid motion and preform the best when you do. In most of my Metanium's I have 1 brake on and my side dial at zero and they do not backlash unless the lure is extremely light. I mean I really try and send the lure a country mile in the wind and all and it never backlash's! Both have trade off's. I feel that you can fine tune things better with the Steez. Once dialed in correctly you can cast further with a smooth motion vs a hard snap. Less effort required. You will not be upset with a Metanium. They are extremely user friendly and built so well as are most reels at this price point. Really splitting hairs. To me: Daiwa/Megabass = Eye candy. Great modern looks. Fluid. Handles lighter lures better Shimano = Internal goodness. Built from the inside out. User friendly. SOLID. Just my 2 cents. Quote
Super User fishballer06 Posted March 22, 2016 Super User Posted March 22, 2016 Do a search around online. I would be shocked to see any bad comments about the 13 Metanium. With that, I own 2 of them and I wish I could afford more. Phenomenal reels. Quote
offsidewing Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 I've owned both the 2013 Metanium and the 2015 Metanium DC. Both versions are excellent, but the 2013 Metanium is one of the smoothest casting, most efficient reels I've used. I sold the DC in favor of the 2013 Met. Quote
