Favorite perspective for fishing videos

I don't know about you guys, but I watch a lot of fishing youtube videos and am subscribed to pretty much all of the popular bass fishing channels. So when you watch these videos do you like to see it from a hat cam/ angler pov or from a camera showing the angler doing the fishing? I was thinking about picking up a gopro and making videos myself, just for fun as I like doing stuff like that, and was curious on what other people like as far as shot angles/ pov.

I can't stand hat cam or chest cam videos that are shot with a GoPro. I turn them off right away.

Me too. Too much movement and too hard to follow.

I don't mind the go pro shots when they show like the line ripping off the reel, small segments of those type shots make it interesting but myself, I like the camera on the back where I can watch the entire cast of an angler and learn some of the ways that they go about using different techniques and such, much like Mr. Horton's show.

I like where I can see where he's casting. Mikeybalzz sometimes uses a hat cam and you can see exactly where hes flipping into. This to me is much more valuable than just seeing a guy in the deck of his boat flipping and the area he's flipping is off camera.  Yes the screen gets shakey with hat cams but you can get much better information by seeing the whole cast.  He also gives water temps and depths and times of year as well.  Gives you an idea of why he's doing it

I don't like the hat or chest mounted camera shots very much. The added noise from every movement, along with the additional movement, bothers me.

i think the mounted camera is the way to go as well...  that said, i really think that poor audio, terrible dubstep music or annoying commentary runs me off faster than the poor camera angles.

I know we're talking camera angle but an immediate turn off is the techno  music/ smash cut to the biggest fish you caught blowing up on the surface. Not my style personally. But I do like the high rear mounted angle. It gives you a nice view of everything.

Agree on this as well. I like to hear the sounds that the angler is hearing, or what they're saying (I know I like to talk out loud, even if I'm by myself sometimes). There's some comedy gold that would be lost off the videos I've got if I put music over them.

i find it odd that everyone dislikes the mount that some of the highest rated fishing channels on youtube use, i for one like the chest mount, and i believe its more of a person's personality that makes me want to watch their videos rather than camera angle.

If they only have one camera I like the mounted cam that gives the overall view. But If they only have a hat cam. Stay still!! looking side to side every few seconds is miserable to watch. If they have a chest cam, stand up straight. I don't want to see the reel and gunwale. Point toward the water. In any case...learn to EDIT.

This is one of those questions that really show the differences in the generations of fishermen.  Most of us older guys (I'm 48) prefer to watch videos that teach stuff.  No music...camera not bouncing around, etc.  Younger guys....completely different.  Loud fast music, crazy camera angles, lots of action.  The good news is that there is plenty of all types for everyone out there.  Watch what you like and have fun!

I'm 28 and I prefer what you prefer. Does that mean I'm old at heart?  lol

 

As previously stated, a head/chest mount is too much movement (especially when setting the hook and trying to land it). I prefer to watch the angler as much as the water. What do they do when they feel the fish is about to jump? Is it different than what I do? How about their retrieve? Hop, hop, pause, drag for a slow jig? Maybe I can try that. Etc..

I'm 29 and feel the exact same way. I like rear-mounted higher angle cameras that give me a good view of the what the angler is doing as far as retrieve and landing techniques. I very rarely, if ever stick around to watch the full video if there is music playing over the video.

If I had to chose what I like best it's one mounted at the steering wheel showing the whole front deck but I for one like different angles of the same fish catch ido it's just my preferance.

I like when the angler explains what hes doing and shows what hes doing. I like the format that *** approaches with their videos
