Fisher Guy Posted March 20, 2016 Posted March 20, 2016 trying to decide between a St Croix Medium Light 7' Spinning rod or a St croix 6'-6' Light Spinning Rod. Anyone know the differences? fishing large mouth in a 26 acre lake. Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted March 20, 2016 Super User Posted March 20, 2016 One is a power heavier than the other ... One throws lighter baits better than the other One has a little more backbone than the other One is 6 inches longer than the other one 4 Quote
Super User Master Bait'r Posted March 20, 2016 Super User Posted March 20, 2016 ^lol Go ML. Great in-between power that can do so many things so well. Light action rods I'd be using for super tiny baits and trout/stream fishing. 1 Quote
fvogel67 Posted March 20, 2016 Posted March 20, 2016 I'm using a Abu Villian 6'9" MLF spinning rod with a Shimano Solstace 1000,spooled up with some 15 pound Power Pro. Insanely light and and super sensitive. 1 Quote
I.rar Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 I'd say it depends on what you want to do. Are you a light tackle junkie? Whats the typical bait you plan to use the rod for? Any cover or open water? Confined spaces or fishing from boat/open bank? Quote
Fisher Guy Posted March 24, 2016 Author Posted March 24, 2016 thanks all helpful. i mostly fish rubber worms because thats where i catch most of my fish. I fish from a canoe with a trolling motor. Most success throwing in toward the bank but never really catch anything bigger than 3 lbs. there are some trees over hanging but mostly open. lots of lilly pads near banks. Catch a lot but want quality not quantity. i also don't have experience with plastic lures crank baits or jigs so don't catch much on them. any advice is appreciated. looking at the st croix ML 7' 2 piece. thoughts? Super User Darren. Posted March 24, 2016 Super User Posted March 24, 2016 Personally, I'd go with the ML rod. I did so with my Legend Tournament and have been quite happy with it..... Quote

Are you fishing with senkos? They are such a great starter bait. Really no wrong way to fish them. They are great for numbers with the occasional big fish. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted March 24, 2016 Super User Posted March 24, 2016 I have owned many ML St Croix spinning rods............great "general purpose" spinning rod. St. Croix's tend to fish a little more powerful than they are rated, a ML St. Croix will be like a M Fenwick, Loomis, etc..... Quote
1simplemann Posted March 24, 2016 Posted March 24, 2016 You really can't go wrong w/ a 6'6" or 6'9" ML St. Croix! Especially w/ senkos. Quote
Super User buzzed bait Posted March 24, 2016 Super User Posted March 24, 2016 i too would opt for the ML and like farmer says it will fish like a more all-purpose M rod from other brands Quote
Molay1292 Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 I think that the ML spinning rods from St.Croix are among the best produced. Quote

It's never to cold to go fishing!? I would give fishing advice, but I don't know what area you live in or the water temperature. Quote

Fisher Guy Posted March 25, 2016 Author Posted March 25, 2016 no idea, just getting through winter so probably 40-50 degrees whats a surefire lure? Quote

No such thing as a surefire lure, but I would recommend the Ned rig, and if the water has at least two or three feet of visibility a jerkbait would be great. Quote
IndianaFinesse Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 I've done well with the lucky strike pointer and the Rick clunn jerkbaits. And they don't work quite as well as the pointers or the Rick clunn, but the suspending rattling rogue is a good budget jerkbait. Quote
Super User S Hovanec Posted March 25, 2016 Super User Posted March 25, 2016 I have both L and ML in 6'6" Avids. I feel there is a whole power missing between them. Go with the ML. Quote
