A friend and I are planning a fishing trip to some strip pits in SE Missouri, Kansas around 1st week of April. I have read several posts that have been very helpful about fishing them. I am looking for any advice on lures, techniques, etc that might be helpful for that time of year. I appreciate any help.

I don't know anything about the ones in Missouri but if you're going to fish the ones in KS (Mined Wildlife Area), you can send me a PM and I might be able to help you a little bit. Also, if you haven't gone to the KDWPT office off 83rd and K7 and got yourself an area map, I'd highly suggest it.

Replying to an old topic.

I'm looking to take a trip to the mined areas and fish for a couple of days in my Ap120 kayak.

Planning on an early morning start plus an overnight in the car or nearby BB.

I've never been to the mined areas and planning to visit in May /June.

I have no idea what to put into Google maps etc. or where to start

Can anyone give me r direction on this.

Traveling from OP. KS.

Thanks

Gary

Have you looked at the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks site?

https://ksoutdoors.com/Fishing/Where-to-Fish-in-Kansas/Fishing-Locations-Public-Waters/Southeast-Region/Mined-Land-Wildlife-Area#:~:text=Located in the southeast portion, deep with steep sided banks.

Also, down at the bottom of the page above is more information including a link for bathymetric maps of the area.  Zoom in on the mined lands at this link:  https://ksdot.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=3e0ba6a852d2479aa6e384b4f87a0c2b.
