Super User new2BC4bass Posted March 20, 2016 Super User Posted March 20, 2016 Smoke PT SL100SPT or EX100HPT ? Why? Your experiences with them are....?? Quote
WdyCrankbait Posted March 20, 2016 Posted March 20, 2016 The EXO is the better one, the casting controls on the EXO have a better range. I also feel the EXO can reach greater casting distances. 1 Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted March 20, 2016 Author Super User Posted March 20, 2016 Thanks. Although I purchased a few more reels over the winter, all were models I already have. Feeling the urge to try something new. Although I have something like 7 brands of reels, none are Quantums. It is either one of these or try another Lews. Only Lews I have was grabbed by a grandson for his use when we go out. Therefore I seldom use it because I like to keep it set up for him. A recent Lews thread has me wanting one for myself. P.S. I see you like guitars. What kind? Wanted to start taking lessons and simply had to have an electric. Don't use an amp where I take lessons, so a few months later I got an acoustic so we both could hear my mistakes. Turns out I love acoustic guitars. Quote
WdyCrankbait Posted March 20, 2016 Posted March 20, 2016 Ok, well I can help you out with both cases. I also have the Lew's tournament Lite reel. great little reel, it casts are on par with the length I got on my Exo. Also, search in here for "EXO 100pt" or something close, there was another thread started by someone asking how are the EXOs. The upper End Quantum's seam to do well, but for me, I noticed one or two more adjustments had to be made to them to understand the ACS III cast system (fine tuning, Confidence casts). One thing I will say, I really, really like about the EXO is the ergonomics of it, holding of the reel, the handle, just very, very comfortable for me. For instance, the one knock I have against the Lew's reel I mentioned above is the standard length, 85mm. So, I bought the Lew's 95mm carbon fiber handle. The Lew's handle is a little more "angular," then the Quantum one, and it just feels "mechanical," in my hand compare to the Quantum one that is more fluid in my hand. That's kind of weird probably to read, and try and think what I mean by it, but the Lew's with the 95mm handle just does not feel as connected to me as the Quantum. For guitars, I have a couple of Fenders, Am. Tele and Standard Strat. I have one or two acoustics, but the action on the electrics are lower then acoustics so, that helps me out. Hope that helps! At the risk of hijacking this thread, you just need a few Les Pauls to fill out your arsenal. I'd recommend starting with a Les Paul Jr. to get your feet wet, and go from there. Feel free to PM me if you want to talk guitars, I could go on for days! Quote
Chance_Taker4 Posted March 20, 2016 Posted March 20, 2016 I used to really dislike Quantum. But over the winter I bought the new gen smoke and a handful of Exo ($99 Cabelas) and wow do I love them. I think quantum may be my go to reels. The Exo has a great reputation but the Smoke is the most under rated reels. You won't be disappointed in either reel. Quote
Super User gulfcaptain Posted March 20, 2016 Super User Posted March 20, 2016 The older Smoke 100's had a few issues from what I've heard, and I do have the 150's, but if I were to choose between a Smoke 100 and an EXO 100, I'd choose the EXO all day without blinking an eye. Soild reels. Quote

WdyCrankbait Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 With a TS 808 out front, yes, yes she does. Think Allman brothers sustain with SRV tone. Quote
BassCats Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 according to Quantum the EXO series is being discontinued. I love the exo series though. Quote
Wbeadlescomb Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 I've never had a problem out of any of my quantums. I've got accurist that are at least 10 years old that I still fish with. Only problems I've seen have been with the cheap ones academy would sell for $20 on father's day. Dad has a few of those and one of them the anti reverse is intermittent and that only started after we went to so awesome private lakes and he caught 3 bass over 9lbs on it and lost count of the 4lb+ fish Quote
