Revo S/SX vs Lews Tournament MB

Which one is better?? This will be my very first baitcaster.  I've heard very good things about lews and mixed things about Abu. I will be pairing whatever reel with an Abu Garcia Veritas 2.0

Who makes a better truck, Chevy or GMC? Those reels share parts and tooling. The SX has a full floating spool if that means anything to you. Just pick the one with the features you prefer at the best deal.

I'm going to bet that the overwhelming choice will be the Lews. 

I own reels from both companies, but not those models so no advice other than to say if you buy a used SX make sure it isn't the Gen 2 model.  Casts very long distance (according to some posters), but was/is very finicky in its set up.  Lots of posts complaining of how easily it would backlash.  Gen 1 was highly regarded.

They are both good but I'd go with the S.  I learned on a gen 1 Revo S and now have 2 of the Gen 3 Revo S and 2 of the Gen 3 Revo SX.  The Revo S's are so easy to cast and i've never even messed around with the breaks on them.  The SX are lighter but I feel like the S matches up better with a veritas rod.

I'll chime in on this one. I have a Revo3 STX and just bought the Lews Tournament MB. The Lews is actually on a Veritas 2.0 MH/F with 40lb braid. The STX is on a St. Croix Premier MH/F with 12lb fluoro. Between the two, I like the Lews better. Could be the difference in rods and line but the Lews casts better and is just as smooth. The STX is lighter but the Lews feels more solid.

My vote would be for the lews, I own an mb and its one of my go to reels. It has a bulletproof brake system which is super easy to dial in and is an absolute workhorse. It palms very nice too.

Like many said they're made in the same place and sold out different doors.. Although this is true, they could not seem more different. Comparing an Abu and Lews reel is like comparing a Chevy vs. GMC like DVT said but to many it's like comparing Chevy to Ford.. It's all our preference. I personally prefer Abu and specifically the SX. This reel feels a lot more solid compared to the S and casts much further. Furthermore, to me the bearings feel like higher quality than those in the Lews. I've never had one problem with them and I haven't with lews either.. Just saying the Abu bearings feel smoother. Could be all in my head but there is a possibility of a slight difference in beating quality.

I've got several Lew's and a few Abu's; Abu's feel a bit cheaper than the Lew's to me, but they fish the same haha.

I think I have 9 lews reels now at many different price points and two revos. If you asked me wether you should buy a revo s or a lews LFS I would go with the revo, but the Tournament MG is a sweet reel and I like it better than the revo s. You cant really go wrong with either at that price point, you'll get your moneys worth out of both.

I personally own the revo sx in the higher gear ratio, and I am in love with it. Great reel for the price. But Lews is an amazing brand, and if that's what fits your needs, I wouldn't hesitate to purchase that either.

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but what is a full floating spool? I understand there are probably only two points of contact and it obviously wouldn't be contacting like a normal spool, but what does it mean and what are the benefits? I have an SX and never really paid attention.

What are you using it for? I have a hard time casting crankbaits under 3/8 oz with the SX, but it bombs 1/2 oz lures smoothly.

A full floating spool has a two piece spool shaft that disengages behind the pinion gear eliminating the friction points commonly polished in Super Tuning. The difference in practical application isn't night and day but is worth considering comparing apples to apples.

I own and use both reels.  Hands down I prefer my Lews.  It casts better, backlashes less, feels smoother, and is WAY more comfortable to palm.  My MB will cast any light lure with ease.  I feel the MB is one of the most under rated reels on the market.  For the price, it can not be beat.  I own four of them and actually the only reason I bought the Abu was to determine for myself which one was better...now I know.  (I also wanted a red/black reel to go on a halo twilight red).  So final word from a guy who owns and uses both, without question I love my Lews!

For what it is worth: I have neither of those, but I have a TProG and an STX. I like the TProG much, much better. There is nothing wrong with the STX, but I like the Lew's better. My biggest issue with the STX is just that it feels much cheaper than the Lew's, mostly just cosmetic I guess.
