robster80 Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 this wont b much help as i havemt tried yozuri. but i really like the mccoy mean green Quote
James Pondscum Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 Have used both. I prefer the mcoy on spinning gear . The yozuri 10 diameter seems like it is between a 12 and 15 mcoy? I have just used the clear and not the green but they are suppose to be the same formula. Four years ago I had never heard of mcoy but it is now my favorite on my non braid rigs. I mostly use casting rigs and use as low as 8.lb mcoy. The only bad thing I can say about the mcoy is availability . I have to order it online and larger amounts . Yozuri can be picked up at many places in smaller amounts. If I buy yozuri I drop at least one line size. Lines I have used. silver thread, pline, trilene xl xt vicious and stren. Mcoy is my only choice on spinning gear and my favorite overall. Low stretch, abrasion resistance in my opinion. My two PB bass have come on this line and never a breakoff. No one seems to sell this line but TW ? 1 Quote
Fishin' Fool Posted March 19, 2016 Author Posted March 19, 2016 I found 1,000 yard spool of Mccoy mean green 8 pound test on Ebay this morning for $20 with free shipping. I'm giving it a whirl. Quote
James Pondscum Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 The line is very slick. Give yourself some tag line if you are not good on knots. They can slip. I have had a couple slip. My friend who is very good with knots has used this line for salmon and steelhead leaders has had no problem. My son who is always in a hurry and has had a few knots slip. Where in MI are you? I am from the Monroe, Lenawee county area. Quote
Fishin' Fool Posted March 19, 2016 Author Posted March 19, 2016 Macomb. Mainly fish Lk St Clair and some inland lakes out my way. It shouldn't be much longer now. Already had a few buddies get out in the last week. Glad they changed the catch and release season up here. Though my buddies did have some elderly gentleman ask them if they were targeting bass. They had to politely update him of the new regulations. Thanks for the tip on the line. Quote

I think it was Yo-Zuri 12# that I have seen posted as breaking at 19#. That is why the line has a larger diameter. Personally if I wanted a line that breaks at 19# then I would buy a line rated for 19#. That is the main reason I can't seem to work up a lot of enthusiasm for Yo-Zuri. 1 Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted March 19, 2016 Super User Posted March 19, 2016 Yo-Zuri Hybrid #12 has a diameter of .013" and a breaking strength of 19.5 lbs. Ande Premium #12 has a diameter of .014"; #20 has a diameter of .018". Take your pick, Yo-Zuri is still thinner. 2 Quote
Fishin' Fool Posted March 19, 2016 Author Posted March 19, 2016 I'm giving Yozuri a try 10# for my casting and rods and 6# pound for my spinning gear. It sounds that should work. 1 Quote

For some reason I keep thinking Yo-Zuri has a larger diameter. What this means to me is that I can buy a lighter pound test. FAIAC a true 12# breaking point is hard enough to break. Quote
Silas Posted March 20, 2016 Posted March 20, 2016 Because of this thread I just went to the auction site and ordered a 1,000 yard spool of 8# test shipped for $19.99. I think it's time for me to try something new. Will put it on the Scorpion 70 on its way. At least it will be a good "first line" to try on it I'm of the opinion that reels are like the pistols I shoot. Each pistol has an affinity for ONE particular brand and weight of ammo. I try 6-8 kinds and find it "likes" one better than all the others. My theory is that reels are similar. Perhaps that is just "skewed thinking!" Quote

And for $20 you can take alot more shots with your ammo unlike a spool of fluoro where you usually get about 200 yards for the same cost or more. Did you get the McCoy Mean green or the Yozuri hybrid? Quote
Silas Posted March 20, 2016 Posted March 20, 2016 Got the McCoy green. Already have a couple bulk spools of Yozuri and really like it. Been using it for a couple of years. Just wanted to try something different. In the Murky waters of Louisiana bayous I think you waste your money buying fluoro. Clarity of water maybe a foot at most. Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted March 20, 2016 Super User Posted March 20, 2016 I have been a Yozuri user for years, I have heard of McCoy's and have been intrigued to try some but with 600 yard spools of Yozuri being sold just 10 min from my house at my local Walmart, the convenience is too hard to pass up. So is free shipping on Ebay and Amazon. Don't let convenience stop you from trying McCoys. Quote

robster80 Posted March 20, 2016 Posted March 20, 2016 u wont dislike mccoy i assure u. i love the blue fluorescent on my texas rig setup. just ordered some of the xtra clear also Quote
ibobpeb Posted March 20, 2016 Posted March 20, 2016 Have used both and prefer Mccoy. It's more limp and has less memory compared to yozuri. 2 Quote
WPCfishing Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 I don't remember hearing or reading anything negative about McCoy line. If I was to try a new nylon it would be McCoy. Quote
Preytorien Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 I've used both and to be honest it's a pretty close tie. The main factor for me, since I'm using it strictly on spinning gear, is that it's got to have low memory. Both have low memory. I guess if I HAD to pick one, it'd probably be YZH since I found it for much cheaper. 1 Quote
Fishin' Fool Posted March 21, 2016 Author Posted March 21, 2016 Thanks everyone. I bought both to try will post sometime later this fishing year. Still 3 months to go before the ice melts off the lakes in Michigan Quote
