Found this on youtube and figured I would share here. I just went through my whole box of hooks and made this change and it makes a huge difference already!

All you need is a $0.99 box of safety pins!

Gonna keep the hacks coming. When tournament or even shore fishing things choosing the right baits out of  can be an issue. Instead of searching for the 5 key baits of the day keep them on golf rings or shower curtain rings. I normally have a dedicated day box but if we're trying to key in on subtle differences I'll have a ring with 7 or so different plastic baits.  When they're on a senko bite I'll have my different colored senkos on one ring etc etc. I also do the same thing with certain jigs that come on peg board style packaging. Rip on off and I'm ready to go rather than opening up the boxes and searching for the elusive color in the bottom.  Metal_Towel_Ring.jpg

Hey I like that! My plastics bag is a mess. This might help me get it under control.

I might have to experiment with the safety
pin thing, although I'm certain the resulting
size would mean my current hook box
would no longer work. But I must experiment.

I love DIY hacks like this. Thanks for sharing!

I started using the safety pin hook keeper last season. I keep a small double sided box for hooks and weights and that trick helped out. I found it on pinterest along with other ways to rig lures.

honestly, i've been meaning to do this, but keep forgetting!  i always take the hooks out of the package and then sometimes sit there wondering what brand or size is this?  i'd think this would help me a little bit with keeping things sorted out.

Another alternative is to buy the plano bags and mark them with a sharpie. Tube, beavers, senkos, etc etc in their own dedicated spot.  http://www.basspro.com/Plano-Elite-KVD-Speedbag-Worm-Files/product/14072703014538/

Some guys also use these http://www.planomolding.com/fishing/stowawayr-utility-boxes/prolatchtm-stowawayr-utility-boxes/2373101

The safety pin idea is great and if I hadn't read it here, I would have never thought of it!

Thanks for posting, my terminal tackle kits are 100 times better now.

If you use the slim 3701 boxes about a 2/0 hook is as big a hook that seemed to work for me. I went last night and bought paperclips after reading this thread hoping to organize a little better. All my 3/0 and bigger hooks work as far as going on the clips but what to do after that is another problem.

The boxes I was using before we're Plano 3700 series and i was able to fit most of my hooks in with the safety pins. I just got a new tackle bag from BPS that only holds a 360/3600 size box and they fit well there too. If you lay them in there just right then they seem to just fit right in the there. I'll try try to grab a picture tomorrow if I can remember.

The pins are awesome with hook sans weedguard!

Hooks with a weedguard...not so much...my weekend
experience, LOL. Still. Great idea for non-weedguard
hooks.

I used them mostly for the smaller hooks I use for bobber and bottom fishing. Previously these were loose in the storage spaces and would end up all over my box, especially the tiny panfish hooks.

I only had a handful of EWG worm hooks that were loose but they also fit fine. I tend to keep these in the plastic packs they come in and put them in one of the large square sections at the bottom corner of a 3700 box. Since switching to 360 boxes I had had to move them to an outside pocket of of my plastics bag for now but will fix that soon.

I've arranged my non-weedguard hooks with the pins
and they fit fine in my small hook box.

Only have one setup with about 8 weedguarded hooks
the rest are in the dozens and simply don't work with
the pins.

Otherwise, a fantastic idea. Kudos for bringing it up!

Walmart, Golf Galaxy, Play it again sports. You can even buy a cheap metal stringer and detach the clips from it.
