fishonfire Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 So I was out bass fishing with my son this afternoon and caught this sucker. I caught him in about 7-9 fow with a finesse worm on a shakey head jig. He looks like a small mouth but had a very yellow belly and very distict orange/reddish color fins. It wasnt like bloody fins like you typically see in spawning fish it was a bright orange. Quote
Super User WRB Posted March 17, 2016 Super User Posted March 17, 2016 Green sunfish very common bass prey. Warmouth is a close relative, bigger mouth. Tom Quote
fishonfire Posted March 18, 2016 Author Posted March 18, 2016 Awesome thanks for the help guys. This one is a first for me. Quote
flyingmonkie Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 They are fun to catch... spunky as hell. Pound for pound, I think they pull like a smallie. Watch out though, they are prone to pee on you. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 20, 2016 Global Moderator Posted March 20, 2016 It's a warmouth, Green sunfish are very similar, but tend to have more blue on the gill plates and sides, the fins are typically orange if they have any colors, and of the untold numbers of green sunfish I've caught, I've never seen one with color on it's dorsal while the warmouths I've caught have it quite frequently.
