I’m coming from dark gray lenses on Oakleys and they are just “ok.” Overall good in middle of the day sun but otherwise a bit too dimming for me.  The clarity is just average to me as well.  So I'm seeking an alternative and really looking closely at Costa Del Mar sunglasses.  Looking for some input from those that have any direct experience...

Since I find the gray/charcoal lenses too dark for most of the day for me, I am looking at the copper-based lenses from Costa. I want to be able to sight fish well and want something that is at least decent in mid day light, but also very good in low light or cloudy days. Again, good contrast for sight fishing, spotting structure, etc..

I have tried at a store the copper-based 580g GREEN MIRROR lens and they seem good .. But are they a little dark? The other option is another copper-based lens – SILVER MIRROR. Anyone tried this? The description on Costa’s sight sounds similar to the green lens but maybe lets in a little more sunlight (12% versus 10%) which I might find a plus.  ??

These will be prescription, progressive lenses (and very expensive) so I really want to get them right after being somewhat underwhelmed by my Oakleys.  Suggestions welcomed ~

No experience with the green lens but I have the copper with the silver mirror for over a year now and I absolutely love them. I live in them; if I'm outside, they're on! As far as quality and clarity on the water Costa is by far the best, just my opinion but I've tried numerous of competitors. You might be in the $300 range but they are well worth it. I will personally never buy another brand.

Green Lens is the best lense for every day, driving, and inshore fishing. People who are used to the blue lens fines that the green lens lets in to much light.. You can wear the green lens longer in your day since the blue is darker. If your saying the silver lens lets in more light than the green I personallly wouldn't want them.. I find the greens perfect. Make every thing look way better.

Definitely get 580g

i did plenty of research before my purchase and talked to a costa rep .

I really like my Green 580G's. I don't think they're too dark as I can wear them all day. They block sufficient sun at mid-day and I can still wear them morning and evening. Everyone's eyes are different though, and that's what makes it tough. I think you best bet would be to call Costa and discuss your needs with them since they are the experts on the matter.

I've got the Silver Mirror and Green Mirror 580G's, both are excellent.  There's no wrong choice.

They are both very versatile.  Silver mirror really shines on those weird days where it's overcast but still relatively bright.  Silver is also a little better early/late in the day.  Green has more contrast and is really good for sight fishing on lakes where the fish bed in/around grass or water willow.

Try the 580 in green (not green mirror). Like WIGuide, I wear mine from sun up until sundown and sometimes longer. I'm an old fart and sometimes forget I have them on.

As a 54 year old, I now qualify for not only prescription lenses ... but progressives as well.  At about $700 for the Costas they better be dam good.  Papa, are yours bifocals or progressives?  Curious to know how well their prescriptions work ??

I bought a pair of fantail 580g's and they're hands down the best glasses I've owned, and this is compared to Maui Jim's and oakleys. Although the Maui Jims are great glasses just not as good to fishing IMO, now oakleys on the other hand aren't worth a fraction of what they cost.

Mine are not prescription, but I did add 150X bi-focals (the stick on ones) so I can tie knots with 6lb. mono.

I got a pair of $10 crossfire safety shades I can wear them out side all day fishing then go in and wear them while I grind metal and use them as a little help from flash burn when other people around me are welding. I wear them for everything including driving and if they get scratched or break or fall in the water they were only ten dollars I just get another pair. I don't get why you would pay $300 when you can pay $10.

I have two pair of Costa Saltbreak. One is 580G green mirror and I have one 580P no mirror for low light days. Best glasses I have owned. I got one pair at a show for $90.

Don't forget to periodically check Steep & Cheap. They are an outdoor products discounter & will have Costa, Oakley, Native Eyeware & Smith Optics at tremendous discounts. They won't have every style/lens combo since they are a discounter, but today I saw some 580G blue lens for less than $100.00.
