Without regard to application who wins this rod war? I know it's a vague post just have fun with it. I curious if anyone owns both rods and can compare. I own 2 Furys and they feel great. I don't own a Tatula but have been tempted to buy one. Saying that I've been tempted to buy 90% of the rods out there ;)

Based on price, I'll assume you are referring to the XT. Rods have 2 completely different reel seats. All answers will be subjective.

Nope. I can find the regular Tatula for less than the Dobyns Fury.

k..well then that's another different reel seat. Same statement applies.

I have a Dobyns Fury 735 and a 7'2" Hf Daiwa Tatula.

I really like the Daiwa, it's the same power, but WAY stiffer/faster than the Dobyns.  The Tat is lighter and I think feels nicer, for what that's worth.  I do fish the Fury more though simply due to the fact that I techniques I love, fit the slightly slower action (keitechs and swimjigs).

Dobyns fishes 1 power lighter

Tatula fishes 1 power higher

Dobyns 4pwr = Tatula medium

I liked my Tatula but didn't care for the super small trigger. It dug into my finger so I sold it. The Xt uses the reel seat I can't stand.

Dobyns uses my favorite reel seat

Both are fine rods just pick the one that's the most comfortable and feels the best in your hand.

To me some powers/tapers are better than others in the same line. Like the tatula 7' medium light full handle grip to me fishes just as good as the orochi xx flat side special at half the price. I own both and I actually prefer my tatula ml over my fss. Then there's the tatula M power and I'm just mehh it's a power heavier but doesn't feel as crisp. The ML is better. It's my squarebill/shallow crank rod. The rest of the tatula lineup is too slow for bottom contact for me so that's the only rod I liked. Actually I like the 7'1 mh xf tatula too, everything else was just OK and did not pop out. Luckily there's so many choices out there it's foolish to be brand loyal.

My point is that it isn't fair to compare dobyns fury to a tatula rod without being specific about application and technique usage. Some rods might be better than others in the same brand.

The xf taper st croix has is pretty special, imo, but the rest of the fast and moderate rods are just OK to me. I absolutely love st croix's ML power spinning rods too, but I hate their MH and H so I buy from another company.

Dobyns Champion has that cb glass and graphite blend (704, 705, 765) that I think is pretty special, but everything else is just OK to me. I just don't feel like the Champion rods are sensitive enough for bottom contact. Great for moving baits like chatterbaits though. I'd move up to the extreme champion for bottom contacts. I wouldn't get an extreme champ for moving baits though, sensitivity is not necessary.

I haven't fished a Fury before but I'm sure a rod or two from that lineup is a winner while the other Furys are just OK and nothing special. I wish I was filthy rich so I could try them all and give you a better answer.

have no experience with the fury, but do have some champions, but that may not be a realistic comparison...

that said, i freakin love my tatula 6'10"MH/F casting rod.  that thing is my most versatile rod in the rack.  i'm using it for spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, swim jigs and chatterbaits for now.  i've also used it previously for worms and jigs and it was great with those baits.  agreed it's a little "stiffer" than some other MH/F in that size range, but it's no broomstick.

That Tatula is a great rod, incredibly sensitive and light (not to mention durable). If you can find it for less than the fury, definitely get the tatula
