IMPO if your getting into rod building, it would be worth your while to visit the rod building forum for your answers. You can ask the questions directly to the Baston crew... Crookedneck Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 I use Batson's blanks, but for the bass fisherman I use Mudholes MHX blanks. They are around the same price but in my opinion just a little better for your dollar. Fly rods on the other hand nothing will beat the Batson line up. Quote
Super User .RM. Posted January 3, 2011 Super User Posted January 3, 2011 When building for the tourney angler I use the best. St Croix blanks. Don't have to worry much from the everyday weekend angler, but when challenged by one for pricing I will estimate rod prices with the Baston RX6 & 7 blanks. Tight Wraps! 8-) Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 Batson makes some very good blanks. Their prices are decent but not what I'd categorize as "cheap". I'm a fan of the St Croix blanks of SCIII (Avid) level and up. "Cheap" wise, the Mudhole Custom Builder IM6 are ok. Bang for your buck wise, the MHX line is hard to beat. What type rod do you want to build? Quote
BassResource.com Advertiser FD. Posted January 5, 2011 BassResource.com Advertiser Posted January 5, 2011 I agree on the Mudhole MHX blanks. I just finished a 7-10 MH HMX rod and love it. Quote
rezbass Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 Castaway blanks are a good value and nice blanks for the money also. swamplandtackle.com Quote
