wordty Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 I have a BPS Extreme 7'6" rod Heavy action with Fast tip...what are the best applications for this? I have a 7.1.1 with 50 lb Power Pro on it but have other reels I could swap out. Pitching? Flipping? Hollow body frogs? Umbrella rig? Looking for any suggestions please Quote
Scarborough817 Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 i'd use it for flipping and pitching Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 16, 2016 Global Moderator Posted March 16, 2016 A rig or light swimbaits would probably be your best option. Quote

HookdUP Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 You can pitch or punch with it ..swim air rods contrary to popular belief can't just be broomsticks ... Idk about umbrella rigs as I don't fish them.. But I've never seen a scenario where a broom stick feel rod was a good choice Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 How heavy is "Heavy"? Depending on the lure weight range and action, it could be good for a number of apps. Quote
Super User WRB Posted March 16, 2016 Super User Posted March 16, 2016 If you can cast the lures you use effectively with this rod use it whatever application you want. Flipping is all rod, pitching is a combination of flipping and letting line out with the reel, both would be good applications. My heavy 6 power 6'10" jig rods would be considered broom sticks by most anglers, however they are only 3.8 oz and cast 1/2 jigs over 50 yards...if you know how! Tom Quote
Poolshark Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 I use this exact rod to flip into heavy cover and occasionally to run a frog through very thick mats. The idea being to turn their head and get them out before they run down and tangle you up. I have also used this rod when bank fishing very inaccessible lakes/ponds when I need to pull them up and through sawgrass or over some nasty matted vegetation when my other rods wouldn't get them.
