River Dave Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 I've read online that Dann Rd is public with hiking trails back to it. Fishing is supposed to be good but I've never personally talked to anyone who's fished it. Looks like a hassle to get to so I never bothered. Just gettin' old and lazy I guess. Years ago I'd have already been there AND fished the far side of it because that's always where the big ones are right? I used to always hack my way through the woods to get to the back side of every pond and puddle in town because I was always convinced the fishing would be better on the other side. Of course it never was. The pond at Ellicott Creek Park is usually pretty good but sounds like it's still too early yet. Should be good by now but my buddy was there Monday and said it was low, muddy, and fishless so far.  Quote

I drive down the 990 at least once a week and see a huge body of water that seems completely unfished..  Also, any input on the Cassadaga lakes? Quote

I hope to go check it out soon.. I guess you park on the road and walk down a trail and its right there.. Quote
River Dave Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 Dann Road is off Transit between County/French Road and Millersport right across from Bittermans Automotive. From what I read online you go down Dann Road and somewhere around the sharp bend there are marked trails back to the pond (might follow the power lines or something?). Satellite picture shows three bodies of water back there but I think everyone is talking about the biggest one.  I haven't been to Cassadaga in years. Real pretty lake(s) just full of Lilly pads and other great looking cover but I never had much luck there. That doesn't mean much though, I never caught much at Silver Lake or Coneseus either and it sounds those are both great fishing. Here's another one of my maps . Dann Road is the one at the bottom of the ponds with the dogleg right where it hits that little body of water. 1 Quote
River Dave Posted April 23, 2016 Posted April 23, 2016 Sure thing Chris. Had a good day today. Didn't get out fishing but got to spend the day playing in the boat and getting it ready to go. Got it cleaned up a little and got my new depth finder in today. I got sick of always having to leave the bow to see how deep it was so I bought another unit for the bow. I had a similar set up on my first boat and it was great so I think I'm going to love this. I have the same thing but bigger for my main unit so this one is easy to learn plus it came with a nice map chip that fits both units so that was a nice surprise. Can't wait to get it on the water and check it out! Hopefully next week.  Quote

Hurricane Posted April 23, 2016 Posted April 23, 2016 I have a brand new canoe with a brand new trolling motor.. not trying to take it on the river lol Quote
River Dave Posted April 23, 2016 Posted April 23, 2016 Hey thanks, if the weather is decent I'm hoping to get out sometime this week. Not much hope of catching anything this early but that's OK, I just want to go. Â I see a lot of kayaks in the river but never a canoe. My buddy used to have a canoe/trolling motor set up and we went to Glenwood Lake and the Alabama Swamps a few times. It was a great set up. Quote

I know a couple that live on it. Out in cowlesville. I usually use their Jon boat but it sucks.. hoping to get the canoe out there tomorrow.. Quote

BuffaloBass716 Posted April 24, 2016 Posted April 24, 2016 Were any of you guys at the overflow pond at ellicott creek on friday afternoon? I managed to get out for the first time this year and saw a few guys there. Nobody caught anything while I was there but I did get one on an inline spinner so I felt like I accomplished something good. Quote
John Gustas Posted April 24, 2016 Posted April 24, 2016 I was there between 11 and 1.  Managed to get a pike on a red lipless.. Had a monster on shortly after, but he threw the hook!  Any luck at birdsong lately? And has anyone been to the Cassadaga Lakes? Quote

Cassadaga is real pretty with lilly pads everywhere and all kinds of good looking cover. I was pretty young when I went and didn't catch much (if anything) but I'd like to think I've improved since then. Maybe I'll try it again someday but with Chataqua a little further down the road I doubt it. Quote

What were they biting on for you? As for river smallmouth, I managed this hog in the river this past friday. Pre spawn belly with huge shoulders on her. Very healthy fish, she's covered in foam, I didn't get a chance to wash it off before the picture but the colors were amazing. 4 Quote
Hurricane Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 Took the canoe out to the private lake. Caught 28 Largemouth .Nothing over a 1lb... Was fun though.. Quote

I was using a tube yesterday and found a sweet spot in the shallow. I kept pulling them out. Which part of the river did you catch that nice smallie? I've been looking for a good spot to catch smallies. Quote

I've never tried that. That smallmouth was at the foot of sheridan, at near the boat launch Quote
Justjigger Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 Nice smallie on a swimbait at my dock yesterday 1 Quote

I would go off on the right side of the launch heading towards the Huntley plant and catch all kinds of smallies (even caught a muskie there once). Used to do real good sometimes right at those discharge pipes when the water was flowing. I haven't fished there in years but I launch the boat there all the time. 1 Quote

I fish from a center console so I'm on the lake alot. Quote

Most people stray away once the weeds grow in, but I have a few way to get around them and I know were the fish tend to hangout. Quote
