Welcome! I've been at Walton Woods recently (it's the one behind the police station). No giants yet but you're always gonna catch something. People have told me they've pulled big bass out of there but I've yet to see someone or catch a big one myself but the bass population in there is very high. I usually use senkos and frogs and it gets the job done. So the pavement road spot is worth going out to? Are you technically allowed to fish it or have you ever had any problems? Quote

Try a post in the "any luck in upstate NY?" thread for advice on Silver. There are some regular posters in there that fish Silver all the time (one guy almost daily).  Docks were the pattern the day I was there earlier this year.  I went to Cayuga Lake on Tuesday. Struggled for most of the day and then finally found some fish in a rocky windblown point. No giants but they were stacked up pretty good in there. Ended the day with around  20 bass, 3 pickerel, and a handful of perch. Lost a big fish on a jig in 15' of water, drag was too lose and I never really got a good hookset. Total bummer because that was a big girl.  2 Quote
Sean Barbour Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 I was on vacation this week went to salmon river bought a groupon. Did some research before I went found a bunch of water that looked promising. Ended that three out of probably 20 spots were fishable from a small inflatable which is what I have. The girlfriend and I went out and we heard air escaping which effectively shut down fishing from any sort of boat. Ended up fishing the upper salmon river reservoir which is giant but had a lot of shore access. It was so dang hot and dry you could tell the reservoir was way down. Ended up catching some small smallmouth and one maybe two pound LMB dragging soft plastics. Now that I am back here looked for some spots south of here tried some ponds in zoar valley with nothing checked a couple spots I saw on google maps in perrysburg and on sisson hwy, also a spot in west valley. All posted and no fishing. The search continues............ Quote

The only thing I can say is there are fish in all the UB lakes. The biggest the one that is all muddy all the time is the hardest for me. I have caught bass in there but nothing over 12 inch. I am sure there are some big ones in there and I would love to hear of anybody who has caught in that lake I think its called lasalle. I have caught fish in the other lake at UB and behind the amherst police station. Pretty much all soft plastics have worked for me at these lake. With plastic worms at the top of the list. I was skunked the last time I fished at UB though probably about two weeks ago..... Here is the best bass from my vacation this week. This bass season more than most has me chomping at the bit for fall and salmon/trout! 2 Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted August 12, 2016 Super User Posted August 12, 2016 Anyone here kayak fish? I'm heading up the WNY chapter for KBF with a few events left for the season. Oak orchard next week and lake Alice in September.  On another note anyone fish the quarry on mountain road in gasport I've heard a lot of good things about it I've been twice to scope it out the last time I went there were some people swimming and a couple small boats out there fishing. With me taking this job in Lockport I might make it a stop on my way home some days. Quote

Super User clayton86 Posted August 12, 2016 Super User Posted August 12, 2016 I fished it a few weeks ago did decent around the island and absolutely nothing up otter creek. That's all I fished I wasn't there long. Levels are probably like everything else in the area and low. I can swing by today or tomorrow and let ya know I drive by on my way home from work Quote

Sean Barbour Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 I fished harwood and case lake in Cattaraugus county. My best fishing day of the summer as far as size goes all but one over three pounds. The biggest was 5# which may be the biggest bass I have ever caught in the dog days of summer most of my big bass are spring fish and winter fish down south. This is the 5# 2 Quote
Sean Barbour Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 I went back to the same spots I went to yesterday today. I was all excited it was one of those days where I thought I had the fish figured out. Tried the same lures and presentation in different spots on the lakes thinking I could pick fish up the same as yesterday. I didn't even get a bite. So I went and tried the spots I fished yesterday still no bites. Switched up lures, presentation, color. About the only thing I didn't try was throwing crankbaits or soft jerk baits. Maybe I should have but it just seems in my head if slower finesse techniques aren't working than chances are faster reaction baits won't work? I never test the theory though so I could be wrong? Anybody get any bass today? Â Quote
Sean Barbour Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 I even broke out the ned rig which I have been trying to get myself confident with only tried it a few times mostly because most places I fish aree to weedy. I just can't seem to get bit with it except for sunfish or perch no fish caught. Hard to get myself to commit more time to fishing it when I can't seem to catch I'm in the same boat with bass jigs every time I fish them I catch nothing so I don't use them I feel like i must be doing something wrong because I know that for some these are go to confidence baits.  Quote

The last morning I fished Cayuga Lake on our trip last year I hooked at least 100 fish in a new spot I found on the last day of a week long trip. I tell you I have been dreaming about getting back ever since. I finally made it back the other day (same exact week as last year) and ran right back to my GPS waypoint and never ever got a hit. Absolutely nothing there. What a bummer. At least this was a year later, I can't imagine the frustration of going back the very next day and not getting bit. Ouch. Quote

Sean Barbour Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 ended up with four threw everything at em finally got one on a c-rig lizard but I wasn't even fishing it anymore went to reel it in and he grabbed it. The other three were one a blue and brown crayfish imitation totally out of my comfort zone just trying to make it move enough that the claws shook. Tough day but at least I caught some and I didn't let being skunked beat me. Back to work tomorrow vacations are never long enough. Quote
