Sean Barbour Posted July 28, 2016 Posted July 28, 2016 I tried the river north of the grand island bridge this morning nothing not even a bite 2.5 hours. The floating grass was horrendous picked up grass on almost every cast. Then I tried Hyde Park for the second time in my life. I finally see why so many of you fish there. I only landed three. I had more fish pick up my lure and some how not get hooked than I can ever remember happening. Frustrating but at least I received bites. 2 Quote
NT man Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 I had the same thing happen to me last wk. a lot of hits, nice hits .hook a few and lost them. Quote

I couldn't figure out where to fish not a lot of shore access from what I could see? It bothered me that i couldn't throw a canoe in any of it. There was some kinda kayak class there or something as soon as they all got on the water I got off the water. Quote
stratos122 Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 When I fished it I fished one or the ponds off 77 maybe I'll try that one again next week. Quote

Yah I tried a few places along there. It looked great but I didn't even get a bite. There was some kind a hunting dog contest going on though so there were some places I would have tried that I couldn't because of the dogs. Quote

BuffaloBassMaster Posted July 31, 2016 Author Posted July 31, 2016 Anyone fish Tift Nature Perseve (Lake Kristy) recently? Thinking about giving it a go soon Quote
Matt Chodaczek Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 Went out today to Ellicott Creek Park to the overflow pond and no hits in 6 hours using Texas rigged Senko. Â Looking for some good shore bass fishing right now Quote

I think the fish probably move out or don't feed much there. They may only go in and feed early morning and evening or even at night if that. as far as good shore fishing spots go I don't know any right now? I caught some at hyde park but most were from my inflatable. 4 hours ago, BuffaloBassMaster said: Anyone fish Tift Nature Perseve (Lake Kristy) recently? So l the grass floating in lake erie and flowing into the upper and lower niagara river is that normal for this time of year? or does it have something to do with the high temperatures? I have fished the lower river in july and august before just hitting my trout spots early and never seen all the grass I see now? anybody know anything about it? or when it might let up? It makes it almost impossible to fish. Quote

It seems there are a lot of guys on here who fish there I have only fished there twice if one will speak up they may be able to help better. Quote

ThinkRSX Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 Yes, there's shore access. I usually fish it everyday but I haven't been since Friday due to illness. The bite had been pretty steady, but when I went on Friday with jigger it was virtually non-existent.  My go to lure has been a buzzbait for the past three weeks. When I encounter a bass who short strikes my lure, I'll follow up by throwing either an unweighted Senko or a c-rigged baby brush hog which does the trick. Quote

ThinkRSX Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 I was there for about 4 hours yesterday... Not a single bite. Spent 2 hours throwing a buzzbait, then moved onto c-rigged soft plastics for an hour, and finished up my last hour throwing cranks, spinnerbaits, toads, spooks, and jerkbaits. The heat is probably a major factor, but I've also noticed the fishing pressure has increased greatly.  I had never seen anyone throwing a buzzbait there up until Friday when I came across one and yesterday there were 2 more. I think it's time for me to find a new honey hole. Quote
Sean Barbour Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 Where we are in history is going to put a lot more pressure on most people's honey holes. Between forums, social media, fishing apps, and Google maps , and kayaks. Everyone, is finding out about every bodies spots fishing them harder. Which is going to make all the fishing harder unless you know someone with private waters. I understand it, its how I found this site. I was searching for new spots. I wish I knew a solution but I don't. I totally understand why some people don't give up spots. I mean I know a spot on the lower river where last 5 years at its height there were maybe 20 guys and it was manageable. This past year there were more than 20 car loads! Cars from PA, OHIO, I even met guys from Denmark!! It was crazy. It's ok unless more guys are trying to fish one spot than is possible which happened to me a lot this past year. Plus there's guys throwing hardware and guys drifting. Totally different techniques and they don't work well together without forethought when it comes to positioning. Problems occur for instance when I get to a spot at 5am and at 8am a guy tries to set up right upstream drifting when I'm throwing a spinner up stream already. This doesn't work and things get uncomfortable. I can only assume it will be worse this year. I already get anxious about it I just love the fishing there so much in the fall. Thats enough of a rant from me about diminishing honey holes.................. 6 hours ago, ThinkRSX said: I was there for about 4 hours yesterday... River Dave Posted August 4, 2016 Posted August 4, 2016 I finally got out on the upper River again yesterday but the fishing was terrible. I went to a million different spots and really only found fish in one place. Even then I could only get one of them to hit and I threw all kinds of stuff at them. I fished everything from 3' down to 20' and just couldn't find 'em, I swear I just don't know where they go in the summer. I spent a fair amount of time snorkeling and I still didn't see anything. I actually saw more muskies than I saw bass when I was in the water. No such thing as a bad day on the boat but the fishing was brutal. I'm on vacation next week and am thinking of heading to either Cayaga or Silver for a day. Hopefully that will be better than the River. Quote
