I'll hit Cabela's and load up. Lol I'll definitely let you know what did and didnt work. From what I read in another thread bluegill color jerkbaits are the ticket now. No time for me to get to Cabela's this week so I'm going with what I have (which sounds all wrong) and make the best of it.  Hey Chris I've been to Cayuga in May before and did real well up by that train bridge at the North end. There's a state boat launch up at the North end too so it's an easy launch. There's  a couple of rock humps up in that area that produce too. There is also a channel that runs up under the rail bridge and out into the main lake. My PB largemouth was out of that chanel in front of the bridge. If the docks are in those are always good and the pattern in August (which probably means nothing now) was like 15' weedbeds. Perch/firetiger is a good color there and the pickerel love big swimbaits and buzzbaits. The last day we were there last summer I had easily 100 pickerel (couple BIG ones) and just under 20 bass. Had a ball. I love that lake.  1 Quote
Hurricane Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 Thanks dave.. As a matter of fact, thats where we launched last time. We drifted  that whole bank where the 2 train bridges were. Its an awesome lake.  Going to throw a Spinnerbait,  chatterbait,  senko, jig, and crankbait.. Bound to catch fish.. Quote
River Dave Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 Man I swear these fish hate me. I found where they all live but I can't t get them to bite. Either they're all on a diet or somebody farted on my tackle box because I can drag everything right past them and they either ignore it or run away. Would be frustrating if it wasn't such a nice  day out here. I'm just enjoying my day and hoping they'll turn on at some point.  Quote
Hurricane Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 Looks like Rain Sunday for Cayuga... Ugh,.... Oh well I am still cool with the Lake or the River..... Quote
River Dave Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 Not sure what the problem was today but I only caught 2 largemouth, one pike, and  a giant rock bass. I saw a ton of fish but the only ones I could get to chase a bait were the ones under the docks. Caught the pike on a perch  color spinnerbait (and had a bunch of hits and follows that didn't hook up) and caught the bass on a weightless T rigged Senko. Tough day fishing wise but very enjoyable, I stayed out ALLLLLL day it was so nice.  Good luck in the morning Chris, hope you have better luck than I did today. Quote

Bringing 4 rods. Rigged with the Ned Rig, Lucky Craft pointer, Spinnerbait,  and a lip less crank... 14 hours ago, ww2farmer said: Flat calm, bright skies, high barometric pressure................that spinner bait would have been cut off before I even put the boat in the water. Farmer, might be a stupid question but will Smallmouth go for the chatterbait? And if so what color? Gold or silver blade? They probably will smash it. Just figured I'd ask.. 1 Quote
River Dave Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 I was throwing the spinnerbait for pike rather than bass but even they didn't want much to do with it. I found one shallow flat that was loaded with smaller pike and they kept rolling on it and swatting at it but wouldn't really eat it. Later in the day I had a school of bass doing the same thing on it, had 4 or 5 hits in a five minute period but no hookups. I will know better next time , thanks for the tip. Good luck tomorrow Chris, let me know what the water temp is if you remember. Quote

hckyplyr Posted May 22, 2016 Posted May 22, 2016 New to forum, but everyone seems very helpful on here, so I thought I'd join. I think I know pretty much every pond in the Derby/Hamburg, West Seneca and Orchard Park areas. I did live in West Seneca, now recently moved to Orchard Park. Quickly breezing through this thread, I don't think I saw two ponds mentioned, so I'm wondering if anyone knows more. First up, right down the street from me is Chestnut Ridge Park, which has a pretty big pond, with a fishing platform where people are always catching crappie and bass. But I'm wondering if anyone actually worked their way around the pond (which has access around the entire thing), if so, how'd you do? Second up, in town of Langford NY theres a huge pond off Sisson Hwy, I believe a man privately owns it, but he has sculptures and site seeing areas, I THINK you can fish there, but wondering if anyone has? I tried to attach pictures, but the files are too big. If you google map these, you cannot miss them. Lastly, tonight I might be going near tonawanda creek near border of Amherst and Pendleton, can anyone give me a solid spot to catch some bass? Thanks guys. I'll be contributing more since I'm home for the summer. I have a pond in my backyard, and there are a couple ponds down my street in OP, but mostly all smaller largemouth, crappie, nothing to write home about.  2 Quote
Hurricane Posted May 22, 2016 Posted May 22, 2016 Fished the river today.. we boated over 20..  Caught all of mine with a ned rig. All fish were between 1-4 lbs with this 4lber being the biggest  1 Quote

Most of my luck has been by the commissioner's cabin.. The place is heavily fished. It isnt my first choice.. I am always looking for new places to fish. I fish a handful of ponds around here in orchard park. Most are in the Birdsong neighborhood... Where in Orchard Park are you located? Haven't heard of the pond in langford, but interested now lol.. I get out to fish when i can, usually a couple days a week..I have 3 sons under the age of 3 so the wife and i are always busy. Quote
River Dave Posted May 23, 2016 Posted May 23, 2016 Hey nice one Chris! Niagara River smallmouth are my favorite fish in the world. I have one question for you though, how do you fish a ned rig in the River? Isn't that a super light finesse type presentation? I wouldn't think you could do that in the current of the river. Where you in some bay or marina or out in the main current? I'd like to try those this year but figured I'd have to go somewhere else to do it. I'm impressed. Hey Hockeyplayer welcome to the forum. As much as I'd like to help out a fellow West  Senecan (I don't think that's a real word) I've never heard of any of the ponds you mentioned. I've spent hours and hours at Chestnut Ridge over the years and never even knew there was a pond there. Sorry Quote
Hurricane Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 Just casting and jigging it while drifting... Try it man.. Its killer. Â Quote
ThinkRSX Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 I was able to get out to Silver Lake on Saturday. Â It was my first time fishing there. It was the perfect day for fishing. No wind and overcast. We hammered pike all day. Went through 3 dozen chubs before noon. Boated 20 northern pike, 3 bass, couple rock bass, bullhead and a half dozen perch. Â 2 Quote

ThinkRSX Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 I swear, the Niagara River really doesn't like me. The only time I'm catching fish is in the creeks and on the lake. Every time I try the river, she sends me home with out a bite. Sorry for the whine. I've spent the past two days fishing the upper Niagara, with live bait, (shinners and sucker chubs) and the only thing I've caught in 16 hours of fishing is a farmers tan.  Quote
River Dave Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 Nice one Faye! I know the feeling RSX, Silver Lake seems to like you and hates me but the River seems to be the opposite, likes me but is stingy with you. I haven't really been on it yet this year but if I were to fish the river tomorrow with live bait I would stick to the backwater areas like marinas, canals, and the bay of Strawberry Island. If you're chucking lures I would drift between the Huntley plant and Mid River Marina. Me and the River play well together, Silver Lake on the other hand sent me home with nothing but a farmer's tan last week. 1 Quote
fayegarnett Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 guys, i'm literally stomping my foot on the ground in frustration. it's real exciting to know the bassmaster elite series happens right in your town, and then it kills you to realize you won't be in town in those few days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's driving me NUTS!!!!! I've never ever been so close to the elites!!!!!! Anyways, guys have fun at the Expo!! Take some pictures and post them here!! Quote
ThinkRSX Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 Those were the three spots that we fished on Silver. We only changed locations 3 times, but never moved more than 100 yards. We only had a trolling motor and a set of oars, so we we didn't stray far from our launching point. 1 Quote

This sport i feel like is so underfunded. The live broadcast is crappy and live analysis is more like guessing. i guess it should not be surprising since bass fishing is not really a spectator sport and without viewership, there is no money. but anyways, this year BASS really shows some love for west new yorkers. here's another elite before the buffalo one just a couple hours away. I am thinking if I should drive there to the expo Quote
