My best fishing day of the summer as far as size goes all but one over three pounds. The biggest was 5# which may be the biggest bass I have ever caught in the dog days of summer most of my big bass are spring fish and winter fish down south. This is the 5# Omg wow I'm around the area all the time because I have cabin out that way where I hunt, fish and what not. Never really tried either lake but see them all the time. How is it? Def need to try it next time Quote
Sean Barbour Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016 I think like with most other places its feast or famine. I either do well there or catch nothing. I think maybe its me though? some like the pros or semi pros can get bass to bite when they are not biting. Not me not sure I will ever get there if it hasn't happened over 40 years lol......... Titus-NT Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 Well...over the past few weeks I've been skunked at Hyde Park a couple times and then shutout last Sun morning at Walton Woods. Still searching for that first bass. Decided to take my 7 year old daughter out to catch some sunfish in the canal Monday morning, just to get a line wet. After there for about a half hour, she hooked this bass using just a worm on a hook with a bobber. I, in keeping with the theme, was again shutout as she outfished me, 3 to 0. 1 Quote
NYBasser Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 Had the chance to fish while visiting Cornell and Niagara Falls. Fished Stuart Park at the South end of Cayuga for about 30 min. Caught 2 bass on trout magnets, and about 6 more on a rooster tail. Largest fish was close to 1 lb. Also tried fishing Walton Woods Park. Fished the larger lake for 15 min with a 3 inch wacky-rigged Senko in black/blue, which produced a dink bass, probably 1/2 lb. Quote
Sean Barbour Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 the bass in my profile pic is at walton woods. its my PB for walton woods 4#er probably five years ago. Quote
River Dave Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 I took the family out on the boat yesterday in the River. Spent most of the day pulling kids in the tube and going for boat rides but managed to squeeze in an hour or two of fishing. Nothing. Tried a bunch of different spots with a bunch of different lures and never even felt a tap. I am the worst when the water is warm like this, I just don't know where they go. Quote

No giants yet but you're always gonna catch something. People have told me they've pulled big bass out of there but I've yet to see someone or catch a big one myself but the bass population in there is very high. I usually use senkos and frogs and it gets the job done. So the pavement road spot is worth going out to? Are you technically allowed to fish it or have you ever had any problems? Thinking to go to Walton Woods, where is parking and how is the shore fishing Quote

There's a lot of shore access, I've caught a lot of fish off of various lures but I've just never caught anything with good size. But the population is high in there and you're always bound to reel one in Quote
River Dave Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 Just caught my PB! Woop woop! Details later. 3 Quote

River Dave Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 Wow what a day! Just got back from a great day on Silver Lake. Got to see a gorgeous sunrise and an even better sunset, had a Bald Eagle grab a fish right next to the boat and caught my biggest ever (by a fair amount) largemouth. Fishing was just horrible for most of the day but they finally turned on in the afternoon and I probably caught three of my top five biggest ever largemouth. I think I only ended up catching 10 or 12 fish but I caught most of them in about a two hour period and the size was great. Biggest fish of the day(ever) was just shy of 6# at 5.13, second biggest was exactly a pound less at 4.13, third was 3.14 and then had a couple mid to low three pounders and a few 2.3's. Just a great day to be on the water. 1 Quote
