Yak'd 18 mile creek today for about 5 hours.

Put away 5 good ones!

One lucky guy got off just before I pulled him out of the water.

SO CROWDED after 10am.  It's like kayaking is the new fad or something. Lol

Around Navy Island and Motor Island and by the power plant. I think its called Tonawanda coke? It was insane..  Have you fished any ponds around op?

Way to go Chris, I will definitely have to try the Ned rig this year. I wouldn't have thought you could fish that in the current but I was obviously wrong on that one. Certainly not the first time I've been wrong.

Hey John did it look like the smallmouth were spawning up in 18 mile Creek or are they finished? I would think half the smallmouth in the Lake are up there right now. Was it crowded with kayaks up in the creek or somewhere else? It is definitely the new thing, I see more and more of them every year. Used to be just a few old nature lover tree hugger types paddling around but it has just skyrocketed in popularity the last few years and everybody is doing it now. I never thought about it back then because people only used them for rapids and stuff but I can guarantee I'd get one if I went back in time to my early 20's. We used to rent rowboats and then I eventually bought a big inflatable raft with oars. A kayak would have been so much better.

I was able to convince my oldest daughter to go fishing with me Friday evening.  We went up to fisherman's park, just north of smith boys marina in north tonawanda.  She had a blast with the rock bass.

I finally snapped my cold streak on the river last night. Hadn't caught a fish in the river for so long I stopped taking my net. Sure enough, I hooked up with an 11-12 lb walleye. I tried hoisting the fish up the 8' wall but the line snapped.

Half hour later, I hooked into a 10 lb walleye. I was determined to land this one so I literally had to walk the fish, like a dog on a leash, over 350 yards to the nearest boat launch and land it there.

Videos were not with my GoPro, so quality is sub-par.

Wow, I had no idea you could catch walleye there.  What did you catch them on?

First one was on a 5 series Sexy Shad Strike King Pro Model crankbait.

Second one was on a 1/4 oz. Scatter Rap, similar color to the Strike King.

Last week a gentleman next to me landed a 10 lb walleye at the fisherman's park in NT.  I hooked into mine a little further up the river.

Getting a cabelas $150 gift card tomorrow from my work... its like Christmas lol.. stocking up on chatterbaits, beaver baits,  trd's, and a couple new rapala DT6's.. New braid too..

I don't get mine until Tuesday but maybe I'll see you there lol! My mom got me one for my birthday and my shopping list is very similar to yours. Chatterbaits and beavers top the list with some jigs and craws not far behind. I hear a lot about the DT Rapalas, is that like the old "countdowns", is it a sinking rapala? Ned rig supplies will also be on my short list. ;) Won't have my new tackle yet but still hoping to hit the River on Monday. I have vacation next week so I'm hoping to be on the water Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday.  'Bout time.

NICE walleye! Dang I can't even remember the last time I saw a walleye like that caught from shore. That's killer!

Not sure Dave.. I have always known it as the DT6...  The craw colors are awesome.. Not sure if i want to go with Reaction innovations for the beaver bait or pit boss...

Is the Pit Boss basically the same as a Beaver? I have a few bags of Pit Bosses, can I just use those instead of buying Beavers? I bought a pack of Chigger Craws the other day at Walmart but the whole bag of goodies spilled in the parking lot. I thought I got everything but the craws were missing when I got home. It was really windy so I bet they blew away before I noticed. I think I will probably hit Cabela's on Tuesday afternoon for my shopping spree. Looking forward to it.

RIVER & CANAL UPDATE:

The upper river has been brutal lately, for smallmouth at least. I seen a few on beds near boat launches and near the shore so I'm guessing most are in the spawning mode now and not eating.  However there has been a lot more activity considering other fish species. Tons of perch have moved in, most being very small, few sunnies, and schools of  larger baitfish(might be chubbs) and suckers.

The overflow pond has had quite a bit of action lately too, mostly bedding bass, but some roamers. The bluegill have returned in full force and hundreds of smaller baitfish are in there. Even saw a small pike in the shallows just hanging out. I can't wait until they are done spawning but I heard that they sprayed chemicals in the canal and overflow pond to kill the invasive weeds, which is why there are none in there yet... This kind of sucks because I doubt there will be any decent bass in there once they are done spawning because there wont be any cover.  Any of you guys know anything about them spraying to kill the weeds?

Niawanda park and fisherman's park are literally unfishable. there are like a billion moths flying around. horrible.

Yeah, I happens every year around this time. Plus, the cotton wood blowing around at ellicott creek binds up your eyelets on rods too... next few weeks will really be terrible.

Disappointed in the lure selection at cabelas.   I walked out and ordered what i needed online on my phone in the parking lot.. Did get some stuff in the store though. Stocked up on braid and hooks and worm weights.. Grabbed some trds too and a package of green pumpkin sweet beavers... Had to order the pit boss online.. they didn't have it there..
