Thanks Dave! Fishing is good there huh? Whats the biggest you have gotten out of there?

I usually do much better with numbers there rather than size but you do get some nice chunky females in there when they're spawning. Only problem is they must see 100 baits a day and get real spooky. I've caught some of the 3.5 - 4# females off the beds a few times but it's tough with all the pressure. My partner caught one probably close to 5# there last Spring but that's a fair amount bigger than anything I've ever caught there. I always have fun back there catching dozens and dozens of 13" ers on my ultralight on a good day. At one time 100 fish days were pretty common there but I haven't hit it like that in years now.  It's not always good but it's still the best shore fishing spot I know of (at least in April and May).

Thanks for the info... Are there big pike in there?

ha i live 10 houses from that pond. it's amazing that i accidentally chose the best place to live by. i caught two last week. well, only one of them was keeper. most people i saw there haven't had much success yet. but i think it's getting better.

Nice one Jigger! I wish I lived 10 houses from that pond, that would be killer! I'm probably right around a half hour to forty minutes from my back door to my first cast there. Not too bad but far enough that I don't usually go unless I have several hours to kill. Tell you what though, if I was catching ones like Justjiggers I would certainly go there more often!

Chris I've never caught any big Pike out of there. Mid to high 20's (inches, not pounds) seems to be the best you can hope for. I always hear stories of giants and the guy that caught the 100 pound muskie in there blah blah blah but I've never caught a pike over 30" there. I just throw small bucktails and catch pike early in the year and then bass when they move in a little later. Spinnerbaits work real good there too. One thing to watch out for there is the bottom is lined with some kind of dark liner that is almost impossible to get out of if you snag it. It's kind of a blessing and curse, it steals your lures but I think it's the reason that the water warms up so early too. That shallow water with a dark bottom is the first warm water available every year and the fish just stack up in there. The fish aren't the only ones that like it either, I swear every turtle in the canal moves in there in the Spring.

My brother caught a snapping turtle in there the size of a buick. It does see a lot of action there but mostly up towards the bridge. Most are either to lazy or just intimidated by the heavy weeds and Lily pads to fish along the back where the big ones are. Another thing I noticed is the center of the pond is a great spot also mainly because most people who fish there lack the ability to cast that far, so crack out your 7 footer and get them hard to reach fish.

Next weekend supposed to be nice. Looking forward to finally getting a nice day to fish.

I hear ya man... I've caught a couple of nice ones on Chatterbaits so far this year.. Really beginning to like them better than spinnerbaits...

Yea I'm in that group unfortunately. I always clear out of there once the weeds come in because I didn't think you could really fish it anymore. Never did any froggin' before  (at least not successfully) so never tried that back there. I'll have to give that a shot sometime this year.

Funny you mentioned that, I was really thinking about going into chatterbaits and swim jigs this year for a little different look. Same basic action of what I normally throw but just a little different. I think they get wise to certain baits after a while, seems like whenever I switch it up I do really well for a little while until they catch on again. Maybe I'm over thinking it but it seems to happen every time.

PS: Ever try the Chatter Sticks? I was killing pike on that in the river one year but the hooks kept breaking. Great action but horrible cheap hooks. Instead of being smart and changing the hooks I threw a tantrum and threw it in the garbage so I wouldn't be tempted to use it anymore. The fish loved it but I could never get them to the boat.

I bought a strike king swim jig in bluegill that I can't wait to use... Also bought a couple of those whopper ploppers...

I never used a chatter bait. I don't even own any. With the price of lures these days which is ridiculous, I only buy what I know works for me. Watermelon and pumkin soft baits, silver and blue or silver and black hard baits. White or white and chartreuse spinner baits, white triple blade buzz bait, couple of frogs.those colors catch smallmouth or largemouth. In this area it's all you need

They are worth trying out... Good lure..

Throw a swimbait trailer on it and watch out..

The overflow pond in Ellicott creek park is hands down the best largemouth spot in the area. All you need is a worm on Texas rig and you will go home with a sore bass thumb.

Have you been there yet this year?

Just curious.. Anyone have luck with soft plastic crawfish as well as like bass jigs? I've kinda tried them out but haven't connected on any fish.. I need to broaden my aresenal of baits. I keep using wacky Riggs, Texas and just spinners and stuff

Zoom brush hog in various size work also Berkley havoc pit boss work. Never tried jig there. As far as u need to cast I think it would be difficult to manipulate properly

I like using a 1/4 oz black/blue Booyah jig with a green pumpkin super chunk... Always catches me fish...
