Been out to a couple ponds and tried the small boat harbor last week .  Nothing yet

Posted

I swear I had malaria last week when the weather was so nice. I was dying to get out but ended up in bed for two days shaking and sweating with the worst fever ever. Great timing.

Looks like semi-lousy weather for the rest of this week and I'm working the weekend so probably won't get out until at least Monday.

Hey Lastcast do you know if Birdsong is ice free yet? First time I tried to hit it last year it was still frozen solid. My kid looked at me like I was an idiot when we pulled up. He may have been right.

PS I like this thread, we'll have to keep this one alive.

Hey, anyone in the Buffalo, NY and or WNY area start hitting the water? If so, hows the bite going? Getting eager to get out.

Don't live up that way anymore (used to live between
Batavia and Rochester)...

So I'll just welcome you aboard!

I've been out a few times only luck has been a 10" pickerel. My hunting buddy has been fishing the canal with some luck  going after carp and has seen some bass I'm planning on joining him this week for the bass but life keeps happening and I don't get out

Birdsong is a little pond in Orchard Park and is Land Of The Dinks. I don't think I've ever caught a keeper sized fish there. I saw a guy get about a 14"er there last year and be was going nuts.  My buddy said he used to catch some decent fish there but they all seem to be gone now, everything in there now is 10" and even those are kind of scarce. I go there a couple times a year just because it's close for me and I can kind of go through the motions of bass fishing. Once I figured out there were only small ones in there I kind of lost interest. I'll catch little ones all day if there's a chance of a good one but it's tough to stay interested when you know you won't get anything decent. Was kind of eyeballing the pond in Westwood Park in Lancaster for this year, haven't been to that one yet.

I've only been out once so far.  I threw some rapala's around the oak orchard by the dam but the water was pretty murky...and fast!  I didn't have high hopes when I got there but it was still good to get out.

Anthony my trooper buddy sent me a pic the other day at the dam of 30 steel head all schooled together just past the cable at the dam. I haven't been yet this year to the dam or Alice but might fish it today once the women gets up and out of bed to take over watching the kids.

I had a few hits at johnsons creek the other day and missed em all. I did get a 10" pickerel at the Holley falls last week on a wooly bugger fly.

Lake Alice is in the "town" of waterport it's also called waterport pond on some map apps. There were some boats out there today when I drove by but the dock at the launch hasn't been put out yet.

Great fishing in my opinion, it's 125acres average 30fow deepest is 60fow

I catch mostly small mouth when I fish it but if you run to either end where it gets shallow there are some nice largemouth to be caught. I've done a few tournaments on the lake and seen 30lb bags come in.

DEC also started stocking walleye last year I believe also. There are also pike....like a lot....they suck

Lastcast is on the board with BuffaloBassmaster now, nice! I still haven't been out and it's starting to get real busy around here so it will be tough to find time in the next week or two. Best I can hope for is a stolen hour at one of the local ponds. You guys are killin me :(

That's killer to hit a 4lber when you only had a half hour to fish, I haven't broke 4lbs on a LM in at least a couple of years. I'm also impressed with your throwing a rooster tail with a baitcaster. Nicely done! I looked at pictures from last year and the first time I fished was April first. With the mild winter I was sure I'd beat that date this year by a ton but I probably won't even make it by the first. Pretty soon though, I'm thinking this will be a good year this year.
