Arobb2012 Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 I have a 7'6" h/f casting rod paired with an ambassador c4 4600 reel. I plan on using it for jigs for the time being till I can get a dedicated setup for jigs. My question is would 14lb p-line flouroclear work for jigs? I have a partial spool of it from last season. Super User roadwarrior Posted March 15, 2016 Super User Posted March 15, 2016 When I fished the Floroclear years ago it was undependable and broke easily (on the cast!). If you want fluorocarbon I would recommend #15 Tatsu or AbrazX. Copolymer would be #12 Yo-Zuri Hybrid, P-Line CXX or Isorline. Quote
Turtle135 Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 No personal use with Flouroclear but another angler I fish with frequently also told me that he had breakage issues with Flouroclear. I know P-Line CXX is a strong line. I have used some of that in 17 pound test that just might be the strongest line I have ever used. I most frequently use 14 and 17 pound test Trilene XT mono for jigs. The only reason I drop down to 14 pound test is when I feel conditions warrant longer casts. Quote
Arobb2012 Posted March 15, 2016 Author Posted March 15, 2016 I have been using flouroclear for the past couple of years and haven't had an issue with breakage. I am going to use fluorocarbon or braid on my jig set up when I get one. Quote
HookdUP Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 I'm starting to really really like 12 yozuri .. Been catching a lot of fish on it .. And it's extremely versatile in throwing all forms of jig . Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted March 15, 2016 Super User Posted March 15, 2016 I like yozuri hybrid and I just recently picked up a spool of #12 cxx. First thing I noticed is it's a larger diameter than most other #12 lines. It's more like #14/15 from other brands. Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted March 15, 2016 Super User Posted March 15, 2016 I've been using 15lb yozuri for my lighter jig setup and it works great. Quote
Bruce424 Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 Yea. Pline is a thicker line anyway. You'll be fine. Usually has pretty good abrasion resistance too. Just can't like the memory. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 16, 2016 Global Moderator Posted March 16, 2016 I've gone back to almost all Pline on my jig rods. Just don't feel like the benefits of fluoro outweigh all the hassles and the cost of the stuff. I mainly use C21 though, not a big fan of the fluoroclear. Quote
Arobb2012 Posted March 16, 2016 Author Posted March 16, 2016 Thanks for all the feedback. I'm going to give the flouroclear a shot since I have some already. I'm definitely going to look into the tatsu lines, it seems to be a favorite here along with the yo-zuri hybrid line. Quote
