BrianMRetter Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 I've been reading & posting alot lately with the goal of creating a setup to cover most of the bases for LMB fishing. My criteria was 3 rods only (I kayak fish and dont like taking more than that) and spinning gear only. Most people will suggest baitcasters, but I prefer spinning gear. So far this is what I have come up with. I know each rod may not be the absolute best choice, but I think they will be a workable option. Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted March 15, 2016 Super User Posted March 15, 2016 At some point you may find yourself wanting a rod that will handle smaller stuff. If you need to finesse a ned or small shaky, you might find it a little frustrating. I know you aren't interested in baitcaster, so maybe that's part of the reason you don't have frogs listed. For me, my jig and frog fishing became a whole new, better experience when I stopped trying to throw them on spinning gear. Certainly, it can be done, but I find that I can do them better now. Quote
IndianaFinesse Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 I agree a medium lite would be a good addition for shaky heads and ned rigs. it can be done with a medium power rod, but a medium lite would be better. FFO has a medium-lite abu garcia verdict spinning rod for 54$ instead of the normal 130$ if you are looking into purchasing one. Quote
BrianSnat Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 I agree. For bass if I had only 3 rods they would be a MH, M and ML Quote
Super User WRB Posted March 15, 2016 Super User Posted March 15, 2016 What reels and line do you plan on using? Spinning reels have a line memory issue depending on the spool diameter, the smaller the spool diameter the smaller diameter the line should be. If you plan on using line greater than.012 diameter on a 2000/2500 size spinning reel you may have line management problems using mono/coploy or FC. Braid helps to resolve small dia with high lb test. I would also suggest sticking to one brand unless you are familiar with each different rod you have listed. Tom Quote
