Ritz9876 Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 I am heading to Okeechobee at the end of April and over my birthday. My buddy and I are from Minnesota and have never been to this part of Florida. We are considering staying one night by the coast and would like to go out on the town. Where should we go? West palm beach area or hike it back to Fort Myers (where we are flying in). Probably looking for a steak then some cool places to get some drinks by the ocean. Quote
atcoha Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 Ocean is on east coast... Go east coast, you will find mo' better stuff to do than on the west (gulf side). 1 Quote

For night life on the East Coast side I would say either down by Miami or if you're looking for something similar, but not as wild Deerfield Beach Boardwalk is pretty happening nice bars there is this one bar a little ways down that has live bands and things almost every night. I would stay away from West Palm Beach and Riviera Beach as they aren't that great of neighborhood places and also it's kinda trashy. Quote
Ritz9876 Posted March 15, 2016 Author Posted March 15, 2016 Thanks. Will check out Deerfield beach. Hadn't thought about We definitely want to be in a touristy spot. Quote
HookdUP Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 Depending on your age and social climate boca has nice things to do ... In Florida just go easy on a road or highway til you see water then south and you'll find entertainment of almost anyone's liking . JBs is nice in Deerfield .. There are some nice areas in Broward like las olas... The coconut creek casino is a place I win a lot and is nice to hang . Also hard rock in Hollywood ... But I probably would get on 95 air turnpike and take the 20-30 min drive south Don't have so much fun at night that you're sobering up while throwing top waters like I used to lol Quote
Gotfishyfingers? Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 How many days are you staying down for? Is it a fishing trip with just 1 night out? Ft. Myers beach is not a bad spot at all, especially if that's where you fly into. Are you staying out by the lake at all or a day trip? Only stay if fishing more than one day cause there is like ZERO night life except roland martin marina/bar.If you really want to hit the latest and greatest spot, it would be Margaitaville, which just open in Hollywood FL and its directly on the beach side. There is a boardwalk there as well.. Quote
hoodedmonkey Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 I know someone from that area, I'll pick their brain and see if they have any good recommendations for you Quote

hoodedmonkey Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 Vero, Stuart, and Fort Pierce are all closer than driving back to Ft. Meyers. If it's still around 8 Seconds in Okeechobee is a pretty fun night. Quote
Gotfishyfingers? Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 MikeOGNR- Margaitaville is on A1A, just north of Hollywood blvd.. 1 Quote
Duma Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 Where are you staying on lake Okeechobee - Clewiston, Moore Haven, the town of Okechobee? Quote
Ritz9876 Posted March 16, 2016 Author Posted March 16, 2016 Great info. We are both 34 and staying at Roland Martins from Wed-Sun. A casino spot would be very fitting. We're willing to spring for a hotel if the 1-1.5 hour drive is worth it. We'll probably leave Clewiston around 6 pm after fishing all day, have a fun night out, then head back and hope to be on the water by 9am the next day. THis would be on the Friday night of our trip. The Deerfield Boardwalk looked interesting and fun. I have reservations if it would be worth the drive and hotel costs. Certainly tell me if I'm wrong! This forum is great... Quote

Definitely worth it and Seminole Hard Rock Casino is a nice place in Hollywood. If you like playing Holdem like myself great card room also a lot of slots the whole shabang Quote
Gotfishyfingers? Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 Yup it's definitely worth it BUT.fyi..If you hit up the Hard rock on a Friday night, you might not be making it back to Rolands in the morning. lol There is a lot to take in and the night can go fast.. lol just saying... Quote
hawgenvy Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 Morton's steak house in West Palm Beach near the intracoatal waterway, then the Breaker's Hotel for drinks, on the ocean. Classy. 45 minutes East of Belle Glade. Quote
Duma Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 Ft Myers & Palm Beach look close on a map but the speed limit on route 80 (the road you'll be using) is only 50 I think so it takes forever to get anywhere not to mention it's one of the most boring rides you'll ever experience in your life. I agree with the other poster - Hard Rock is a blast but a trek and there's no way you'll be back in time for fishing in the morning, in any functional capacity anyway. Drive to Palm Beach and get yourself a nice filet, a few drinks and you'll be back in Clew by 11ish. That would be my recommendation. Just my .02 Quote
