I love the bait and i have spent a lot of time tuning my to do what i want.  I put one of the owner hyperwire split rings on the nose to give me a slight down angle on the bait.  I prefer this as it makes it go a little deeper.  I also use the Daiichi Death Trap Round Treble as a hook replacement.  They seem to be about the same weight and are a quality hook.  I dont try and grind a jerkbait fish back to the boat and the light wire hooks work really well.  I have spares in the boat as all light wires will bend and i use the split rings on the hooks to tune the bait for weight.

I'm in the same boat as you my friend!!!! The last time I counted I had 211 jerkbaits and I've probably bought at least 30 or more since then, but I just can't help myself.

Well now...that's a mighty impressive collection of jerkbaits! My collection continues to grow but I probably don't have 1/2 of yours by number.  Good job!

So today turned out to be my STX tuning day. I went and got myself 24 #1 snap rings and 12 #2s, along with Mustad snap ring pliers. They were an absolute life saver. I went back and forth on which hooks to choose. Originally I had Owner ST-36 #6's on them but they sank way too fast for my liking. I opted against the round bend and instead went for the Gama EWG bronze #6.. and while they still eventually sink it is at a much slower rate.

I was unsure about EWG trebles on jerkbaits. It seemed like most of the research I did said that round bends were more likely to hook the fish but EWGs would hold the fish better once hooked. A lot of people made the argument that fish often swipe at crank and jerkbaits, and because of that round bends would be the ticket. But then, and this might sound cheesy, I saw that VanDam has EWGs on all of his jerkbaits.. and that was that.

I tested them in very cold water and they sank slowly, but at about the same rate as the Pointer 100s I compared them with, which gives me confidence they'll suspend in more realistic water temperatures and tied to mono.

Hopefully they produce!

After further testing this bait is a sinker.

Owner ST-36

Gama Round Bend SS

Gama EWG Bronze

Even the stock hooks.

This bait sinks in water temperatures from 50 to 82 degrees. Infuriating.

did you put the stock split rings back on.  The bait is neutral with very light hooks so any increase will make it sink.  My first step would be to take off the nose split ring.  I use the owner welded snap and it is supper lite.

All five I tested sunk with stock split rings and hooks; in all temps.

None suspended. I would like to see a video or picture of a truly suspending STX if available.

Are you doing this in a bath tub or on a lake.  Very slow sink or rise is very hard to tell and mine might be changing ever so slightly.  I am running them on 10 LB YHB on stock hooks and an owner clip.  Not enough depth rate to bother me.  I have made one sink on purpose by putting standard wire on all three hooks and it does sink at a very noticeable rate.

I just go to the mcstick and don't worry about it.

It works fine out of the box and the trebles are fine

Tested my baits again today at 60 degrees on 10 lb yhb and the suspend just fine.  Watched it for a full 30 seconds before I got boored.  Fishing partner verified
