Ohio Yakker Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 First off, that is a fantastic drawing, and looks like a terrific product if I was going adventuring/hiking. As far as improvements, instead of going over a belt, I would consider more of a clip that could fit over and be secured to any style of pants, or maybe have the belt be built in to it so it could be worn with anything. As others have said I would add a place to hold pliers/line cutter. And with many hard lures having long plastic lips on them, I would increase the size of the holders. With a product this small, I think it will be very difficult to fit everyone's wants because there are so many options and opinions and not a lot of room to include them all. You'll have to weigh the pros and cons and try to create the best you can, to accommodate as many anglers as you can. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted April 26, 2016 Super User Posted April 26, 2016 If you are looking for inspiration, pretty much everything that was mentioned i have seen a variant of in the fly fishing world. I use my fly fishing chest pack quite often when i am wading with my conventional gear. Quote
hoosierbass07 Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 Speaking of new pack designs, I wish there were more variety in the Plano/Flambeau boxes available. All of them have the basic same designs with little variety. Quote
bralexander Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 I liked your first post design better than the "blue" ones. As others have said, I would not use something without a place to hold pliers. The only other thing that jumps out at me is that whatever design used, there needs to be a wide clip to attach to your waistband. I rarely wear belts, so the "box" would have to attach securely to any waistband and be comfortable. Bruce 2 Quote

To store spinnerbaits put them all in fire extinguisher tag covers . I can take a photo if anyone wants to see . I put two or three in a cover then lay then in a box with no dividers . It will hold a bunch with no tangles and easy to see . Theres a hole in the covers so they may be nifty in your design . Just put a ring through them . Would you mind posting a photo of one. I googled "fire extinguisher tag covers," but didn't find much. Quote

Kevin22 Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 As far as a bass fishing approach I think you are trying to re-invent the wheel. I don't think it would ever be marketable for bass anglers, we simply carry too much tackle. Instead, I would switch gears towards trout and wading fishermen. for most of us bass fishermen, a backpack works well. You can carry 3-4 3700 series boxes or just a few baits and plastics with hardly any weight. The issue with a backpack is you have to set it down to get into it, which this product solves but 99% of the time I have a place to set the backpack down and get what I need. For wading fishermen, you can't set the backpack down. The other two "competition" items are the creel (basket or purse that is held over the shoulder and holds gear/fish) and the vest. I HATE wearing my vest when its hot out, and I hate having something over my shoulder. Your product has merit here. You could make two versions I would imagine, one to hold spinners and small lures, and the other to hold jarred bait and terminal tackle/live bait. Yes, bass fishermen wade too! I do it quite a bit actually.. but I don't think there are enough wading bass fishermen that would be interested in the product to make it marketable. Maybe as a custom hobby/business, but not as a mass marketable item. Maybe 1% of bass fishermen wade, but 90% of trout fishermen wade... one has a market, the other doesnt IMO. Quote
d-camarena Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 Dont know how to explain this, i had this idea once. Id love to have a clip on tray that hold 2 of the real small plano boxes. One for terminal tackle, one for baits. Just slide the boxes in and out through the top Quote
Andrew the Design Student Posted May 3, 2016 Author Posted May 3, 2016 Hey guys! Well, I finished the project, and I just wanted to say thank you all so much for your feedback. It was really helpful and definitely helped guide the design of this product. One side-note-I didn't have time to add something for pliers, but if i did more design work on this concept, that'd be one of the first things I'd address. Thanks again guys! Check out some sketches and the final concept on my Facebook page. Have a great day! Andrew https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=1326404447373200&set=pcb.1326410504039261&type=3&theater Quote
primetime Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 I actually use something similar that I made myself, just not as nice looking... I took some industrial grade plastic bags and attached 6 of them with a belt clip that I put through a metal Grommet that I placed in the corner of each bag. The Clip is pretty big, but I can carry about 10 bags of plastics, plenty of terminal tackle, and a few lures from each category. I keep it on my belt when fishiing at all times since I keep my favorite baits in the bags...It comes in handy on a boat and from shore... I like the way you are thinking...The bags I use have held up now for about 2 years, they are the same type you find in the worm binders....I use twist Ties from Bread bags to tie up my trebles or I simply wrap them in sandwich bags and slip them inside...I would think having slots like a surf casting bag would be good, alot of guys put PVC in the box for the waste, and hang all the plugs, but most of the one's I have used are pretty crude...A cover would be nice, and waterproof is a huge plus...
