Hope everyone had a great weekend! Heading out to Lake Okeechobee on Friday through Sunday with my brother. Wondering how the bite has been this past week. It looks like its picking up a bit from the last month. We're getting a guide out of Roland's marina so we're in great hands, hopefully. We want to go and pond/canal hop all day Friday. Any spots you can suggest we should check out, kind of close by? Thanks guys!

Fishing is allowed almost everywhere over there. In the image below I have highlighted a few likely areas. Many of which I have personally done well in. Some you will need to park on the side of the road and tromp through some Australian Pines to get to. Others are easily accessible. Make sure your valuables are hidden and your doors locked when not near your vehicle.

I marked Roland's Marina with the Blue and red dot to help set your bearings.

Good luck to you!

If your bank fishing around the lake make sure you have leather boots.  Lots of snakes in the longer grass.

Please let know how you do with the guide! I'm going the following weekend out to the lake out of Clewiston. Last couple of my trips up there the fish were on a hunger strike, so I'm curious to know where the guide takes you and what kind of bait he'll have you throwing. The conditions should be good. I wish you luck! Tight lines! Nail some big mamas!

Thanks a lot @hawgenvy. I definitely will. I'll be back on this on Tuesday so if I forget just shoot me a message and I'll let you know how it goes. Otherwise I will let you know. We're only throwing artificial so I'll let you know location, conditions, and bait types! I appreciate the message!

@Ridi620; if you haven't already read my post about hiring a guide. It may help make it a more pleasant trip.

@hawgenvy so a little recap of the trip. It started out decent. We caught 6 fish in the first hour. the biggest being a 3lber. Just p[itching and flipping in the grass on the south end of the lake. Then it started storming. The rain was golf ball size and needless to say, the fishing pretty much stopped. After the storm, we threw senkos and managed to get about 5 more dinks on the boat in the remaining 6 hours. It was a very slow trip. We spoke to a lot of other anglers on the lake and they were all saying the same thing. Artificials was a tough bite. We were supposed to go Sunday as well but we got stormed out. All in all it was great to be on the lake and an awesome trip. Hopefully next time the fishing is a bit better. Best of luck to you.

If you're still in the area try West Toho for better chances at giant bass. I know several guides if you need one.

Thanks, Ridi620. I appreciate your following up with the report! Lake Okeechobee is a beautiful, peaceful, and interesting expanse. But so far this season it seems folks are often not catching much. I'll be fishing in a club tournament out of Clewiston this Saturday.  ("Thunderstorms likely.")  I got a new rain suit, we'll have a fast boat (I'll be the co-angler), and tons of plastic to throw at 'em. I'll let y'all know how it goes.

Went to West Toho about a month ago. Same thing. Tough fishing. Only caught like 3 fish. My brother and I are trying to get a guide every year. We're thinking Toho again. Thanks for the heads up!

No problem. Iv'e had good results the last 3 years in a row on Toho while on vacation. All have been big bass up to 10.5 using live bait. The right guide is a big part the puzzle.

Hi Ridi. Went out of Clewiston this past Saturday for a club tournament.  Most of the fish were caught at the east wall area not far from the ramp. We likewise did well the first hour, and the guy I was with lost a 6 pounder at the boat which nearly killed him, but later boated a 5 pounder which partially restored his sanity. Most of the fish were 1.5-3 lbs. We eventually moved to a far north spot around noon but only caught two more fish all day; meanwhile the boats that stayed around where we had been said the bite picked up at 1 pm. Go figure. The boater caught his fish on worms and I caught all mine from the rear pitching a blue and green jig with a rage craw trailer. Nothing on swimbaits. Ended up with around 15 lbs at weigh in (5 fish) which surprisingly got us 2nd place among the 8 boats.

I fished the south end out of Bell Glades on Saturday also, and the bite was on from 12:45 and died down around 3:30. We ended the day boating 26 fish.

Yea seems like its still a tough bite out there. Hey at least you managed to get 15lbs in and take 2nd. That's awesome. Congrats!
