Cam DeMarco Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 The temperature is warming up last few weeks in the 50's. I know the water temp is still cold but any pointers on what to use early spring? I was using Square bill crankbaits and they were working great but the bite has seemed to slow down and I'm not sure what to throw Quote
Super User Darren. Posted March 14, 2016 Super User Posted March 14, 2016 Welcome, Cam. I'm sure the NE folks will chime in here! Down here in VA we are throwing wacky rigs, and other soft plastics. I say we, but I really mean me, LOL. I'll likely be throwing some cranks and spinnerbaits soon, though they are not my go-to. 1 Quote

Bedwyer94 Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 I was out on Lake Winthrop in Holliston MA today and me and some buddies all caught nice fish. We were using crankbait and zoom super flukes with a slow presentation. 2 Quote
BaitMonkey1984 Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 Threw spinner baits and cranks today. Not a bite. 1 Quote
Super User DogBone_384 Posted March 14, 2016 Super User Posted March 14, 2016 I've fished Jacob's, Sawdy, and Ponkapog ponds (MA) this month. All my catches were caught with suspending jerk baits. I tried T-Rigged and wacky Senkos, but they didn't produce a lick. And, welcome to the forum Cam. Great bunch of members, especially those from southern New England. 1 Quote
Nashua Nev Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 slow falling craws like the rage craw, weightless for me, but also with a jig and a trailer. suspending jerk baits and floating jerkbaits, i prefer broken-tail, dont be afraid to throw anything, noisy floating frog pulled slowly across 1 Quote

Typically drag it this time of hear instead of hopping it. At times I wait quite awhile each time I drag. You want the jig to sit and allow the skirt to flare out. I usually have great luck with more subtle jig trailers when it is still early. A uncle josh pork frog works well. I also have had great luck with a rage craw trailer which has a ton of action. A wise old jig fisherman told me that in the early spring, " When you think you are fishing slow, go slower" 1 Quote
MikeOGNR Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 1 hour ago, Cam DeMarco said: I've thrown jogs with little success how do you guys work then mostly Drag it on the bottom. Usually I'll use a 1/2 oz Denny Bauer structure jig with a rage craw trailer, but this time of the year when the water is still pretty cold I would put a uncle josh pork frog or a zoom chunk. Basically slow that ****er down even if you gotta dead stick it the slower the better find the deepest structure you can or up where the sun hits first, rocks are wood are good as we'll because they hold heat we'll. the way I fish it is I cast it out wait till it hits the bottom then moving the rod slowly to the side and I mean slow really bumping into everything that's down there. If I hit something rock tree grass etc I'll stop it and let it sit for a bit. Also a. Soft jerk bait such as a fluke or sluggo with a 1/4oz jig head fished with slow twitches will work as we'll. just my 2 cents 9 minutes ago, Mainebass1984 said: This time of year I fish a jig very slowly.
