Rod waxing

I was waxing my rods today and wondered how many of you do this. I use meguairs car wax on the rod, and especially on the eyes to cut down on line friction and to make the rod look shiny and new. Been doing this for a long time and it works well.

I don't do the eyes just spray Kvd on them.  Yeah, I do the same thing and it works well.  I do my reels too.

Waxing will protect the finish and make it easier to clean. Guide friction's not much of a concern other than keeping them clean and wax might help keep dirt fr sticking.

I wax every rod that leaves my shop with spray furniture polish.  A can of Pledge or Behold lasts me for years.

Waxing the guides helps a lot when fishing in freezing conditions. Ice will still form in the guides, but a tap on the top of the blank right in from of the seat will  knock it all loose.

I also use a little Pledge, sprayed on a soft rag.

I just wash mine down with a little soap and water after every 2nd or 3rd outing and they still look like new. The guides get a squirt of L&L along with the spool before every trip.

Never thought about useing furniture polish...

I've never even heard of this. Other than being pretty does it actually do anything beneficial?

Pretty rods catch more fish.

Surfers wax their boards to make them slicker in the water. I don't expect too much in the way of performance...but they do look nicer and doing this let's me fiddle with my stuff more when I'm not fishing.

I clean my rods with some warm water and a few drops of dish soap. When they are dry I wipe them down with a silicone gun cloth.

Hey DVT, do u seal the cork on your new rods. Wondering if I should on mine. And I sent u an email a cpl days ago about a rod and sending my reels in. Hope to hear back from ya, thanks.

I've done it in the past when I've had extra time. It makes them look nice, I don't know that that serves any actual function but I really don't care haha.

Keeping them covered and waxed up when you're not using them means more $ when or if you go to sell them.

Yeah i do it....I use Lucas SlickMist spray wax.

sealing cork is standard MO for me. I don't feel it affects the feel in any noticeable way and keeps the filler intact in addition to making cleaning easier. Pm sent

Should I buy the U40 or whatever it is on TW? Is that what u use? Thanks.

I don't wax my guides, I spray KVD on a microfiber cloth and wipe the guide insert. Mothers car wax is what the rod gets and only a little, it makes it look nice but also keeps dirt and debris from sticking.

After I thoroughly clean my rods and check the eyes for any irregularities, I douse them with a liberal coating of Armorall spray. Let it set for a bit and lightly wipe it off with a soft cloth. It's amazing how protective that coating is! Been doing this for many years.

Yes, I use NXT spray wax. It keeps crud from sticking in the first place. I wax my reels too.
