KyAngler_1120 Posted March 12, 2016 Posted March 12, 2016 Well I was finally able to make it out on the lake. My best friend and coworker invited me out on his boat and we went to our favorite trophy lake. Due to a major draw down, in hopes of controlling grassy conditions, we were unsure of how the patterns would be affected. Literally all of the locations where we caught large bass last year are now dry land. The draw down has revealed a few interesting features that are helping me to understand why I have been so successful in some areas of lake and we plotted some key features that were unknown to us before. We only had three hours to fish and tried to make the best of it. The first fish was caught on a now exposed bridge piling where current from a creek has created a narrowing and fish have been gathering in and along this area. I was using my Daiwa spinning gear and Bass Pro Tender Tube rigged on 1/8oz tube jig and was a chunky 16inches. We moved to the only other mouth of a small creek that we could reach and nothing we fished was soliciting any bites. With about 30 minutes left I picked up a Strike King Sexy Ghost Minnow Crank 2.5. I have little confidence in my power fishing ability and have never caught a solid bass over a couple pounds on a crank. Caught both of these bass not 10 yards from each other the first measured 18inches and the second 19inches. These fish were both very tight to cover. These were both personal best to be caught on the crankbait. 3 Quote

Kentucky Fish and Wildlife built the lake as a trophy fishing lake with a 20in one daily limit. The lake has been open to fishing about 12 years now. Quote

It did not have a good hook set and it nearly got tangled up in a downed tree...it was a close close call. 1 Quote
