seat or no seat?

justt wondering how many of you use a seat when fishing whether it be a butt seat or with a back rest? 

one of the guys i fish with asks me how i can stand all day long. i personally do not use a seat ever except for when jumping spots. i think it takes up to much room on the front deck and allows me to relax to much and miss bites.

I agree on the taking up room part and for many many years did not use a butt seat.  Had acute panreatitus and now don't leave home without it.  Don't always use it but went through some scary times so now it's kind of like a life jacket.  It's there but I hope I don't have to use it.

We have always had a bicycle/leaning pedastal up front. Im hoping since we got a recessed mount for the TM pedal we can do with out it more. The "captain morgan" pose with top mount pedal kept us off balance. Other boats ive fished out of with the drop mount ive had no problems seatless unless its rediculous on wind/traffic in area rocking boat. Im sure my dad will still want the seat more so than myself though.

I don't use it all the time, but when I do I sit on a butt seat. It's always in the boat. There are trips I don't use it at all, and others I use it often. It depends on the day. Rough days I use it more than not. I also fish some long days too 8-12 hours so it's nice to get off my feet every now and then.

I am probably in the minority but I set down in a regular seat 90% of the time. I stand up if I am pitching or flipping or if I need to stretch for a while. I actually have a better hook set sitting down. I have tried the butt seat but it just isn't for me.

Standing on the sometimes heaving deck trying to operate the trolling motor footpedal withOUT a seat (or at least SOMETHING to lean against)?  No thank you.  That's a recipe for a good dunking.

Unless I'm fishing out of a boat with a resessed foot pedal I have to have a buttseat prop

Rest against a butt seat as I get tired, lazy, or if I am in rough water.

There's a saying about drivers in auto racing.

There's a butt for every seat.  But, there's not a seat for every butt.

I never have a seat on the front deck, I prefer to stand.  I also like having the deck open to move around.  

Only exception is Lake Erie, I will put the butt seat in then.  First time I fished Erie I never even thought about it, ended up feeling like I was surfing all day since there was a breeze and I was fishing offshore.

I hate having a seat. I use the butt seat if its rough enough that I don't feel safe.

I sit in a regular seat at least half the time. I have arthritis in most of my joints and my back gets tired easily. My fishing days would be very short without the seat.

No seat for me, It just seems to be in the way. If I need a rest, I will sit in the drivers seat for a few minutes.

I sit in a very comfortable regular seat about 75% of the time.

Standing for surtain techniques and tight quarters/accuracy. This is all relaxing, recreational bass fishing that I do.

If I were fishing in tournaments and the like, there'd be a lot more standing.

I thought about this thread yesterday morning on the way to the lake.

Pulled my seat and post out and commenced to fishing without them.

I do enjoy the open deck space.

Made it 15 minutes or so and had to put them back in.......my back was killing me.

I probably use the butt seat about 25 - 30% of the time.

Some days, it's just in my way...others, I like the break it gives my back...or when it's windy and the deck is pitching around.

One of the problems I had was the seat not being tall enough...I'm 6'2" with a 36 in inseam and the lower seats were actually uncomfortable for my back.  finally found one that raises to a useful height and find that I use it more often.

Butt seat for me 70 percent of the time as a prop to lean against. When my back acts up or I want to be lazy, I sit on it and rest one foot on the raised bow (aluminum deep v) and use the other on the trolling motor. Thought about trying without, but with the small deck space I have and all the gear out on deck a prop to help with balance is very useful.
