I guess you can say I'm really picky. "Swimbait reels" are either heavy or bulky or both. I can't fish those 10-12 oz round reels for 8 hours straight without developing some fatigue. And then regular sized reels just don't hold enough line when you're using 20lb fluoro.

I'm wondering if there's anybody else out there like me who prefer those small 50/51 sized reels that can hold a lot of line and weigh really light for throwing swimbaits? Here's my criteria for the perfect swimbait reel for me after buying, trying, and re-selling many reels looking for "the one".

-Must be low profile because I dislike round reels (I only like the 50/51 sized round reels).
-Palms like a sized 50/51 Shimano scorpion/chronarch/core/curado.
-Weighs 6.7 oz or less.
-Holds at least 150 yards of 12lb mono. I get about 110 yards of 20lb FC Sniper flurocarbon.
-Has 5.6:1 gear 23 Inches Per Turn. Gotta fish swimbaits slow!
-Can throw up to 3 oz swimbaits and not break down.
-Can pull double duty for deep cranking.
-Made of aluminum frame.
-Clicky star drag.
-Clicky tension knob.
-Internal pin brakes and external dial brakes for added refinement when it gets really windy.

So what reel is it?? I'm surprised there's nothing else like it on the market right now that has all of those features.

TS1SMB Lew's Tournament MB Speed Spool.

Why did it take me so long to find this perfect swimbait reel? Because I had to train myself to use right-handed reels, that's why lol. Man I am loving this thing! And it only cost me $112 new! It would be even more perfect as a lefty.

So yeah if you're like me and don't like those big, bulky, heavy reels for swimbaiting, give that Tournament MB TS1SMB a look!

Well could also go with a Quantum EXO 200. around 6.7oz, holds 165yrds of 20lb, all aluminum frame, can palm it and picks up 24" of line per crank on the 5:4.1 ratio as well as almost the same stats on the older Quantum Smoke 150 which holds the same amount of line and is also easily palmable, aluminum frame, and also weights in at around 6.7oz.  So there's two more that aren't big and bulky

Awesome!! Thanks for sharing! I think there should be more posts like this so others can have different options!

I've got 2 of these in 7.5:1 LH and they are definitely sweet reels to palm.

^ The Bay Game 300 is much bigger than a 50 size and weighs 7.5 oz, which is a deal breaker to me. Even the 150 CI4 Chronarch is noticeably bigger in hand compared to the Tournament MB.

Shimano needs to make an Aldebaran 50 reel with a spool that holds enough line for swimbaits. Now I would buy 10 of those!

You sacrifice a lot of torque and rigidity with a smaller reel/ spool, which inevitably means smaller gears. You may see me throwing swimbaits on a Curado 200PG, but definitely not on a Chronarch Ci4. At least not for the type of swimbaits I'm thinking of.

Additionally, 7.5oz is a very light 300 size reel, which is standard for swimbaits. I've never heard anyone complain about the weight on a 7.5oz swimbait reel before...

Yep I'm definitely aware of that but in my original post, I don't throw anything over 3 oz. Mostly 1 oz to 2.5 oz like the Gantarels and 6" Line-Thrus. For the guys throwing those bigger baits these small reels would not be suitable.

Well shoot, I was just thinking throwing the 8" line thrus, but if you're throwing swimbaits under 3oz then I'd also put the EXO 100 in the mix.  You can put at least 120 yards of 20lb on there since it holds 145yrds of 12 and it's all aluminum frame and comes in at 5.9oz with the 5:4.1 coming in with something like 24 IPT.  Winner winner chicken dinner.....lol

How do you think a narrow frame reel with a small diameter spool could have high capacity?

Answer, the arbor diameter is reduced to about 1/2" diameter. The effective IPT will under 12" at 50 yards of line, making it difficult to retreive lures cast at the distance and nearly impossible to control big bass in open water.

You asking me or the op on his suggestions?  If it's for me, easy, I fish braid and have had great success, but then that isn't for eveyone but normally use 200 size reels or 300's on bigger baits.  I have used the 100 on the 68 hudds but that's with 30lb braid and 20lb mono leader so I have a lot of braid on a 100 reel that holds 145yrds of 12lb mono.

Just making a statement about 50 series reels.
