hoodedmonkey Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 Hey all, I have a strange request, and I am really hoping you can help make a fellow angler smile. My bestest friend in the world, and sole fishing buddy, had a severe accident earlier this week - the day before we were going to take our first fishing trip of the season. When I say severe I mean it, he broke his neck, and while he isn't paralyzed he won't be fishing anytime soon. I'm looking for a good place around NOVA to live catch a few tiny bluegill to throw into a tank and then wheel him over for a "fishing surprise." It's just something to make him smile. I'll release them afterwards. Since he can't really go outside I want to bring the outside to him. As for the legality of capturing, I'm a science student and have several large holding tanks that are simulated rivers. They are mock ups of local ecosystems and I have the proper permits to catch, study and release. I've already pre approved this, I just have to document the location of the catch site. I promise I won't be fishing. If it's your sweet spot for something else I promise to not return (minus to release) and never share the location with anyone. You have my solmn word. I'm looking for somewhere around leesburg ish but willing to travel to herndon, reston, chantilly etc. Just somewhere easily accessible, with a good population so I don't upset the balance by temporarily removing some. I'm not usually looking for little bluegill so I'm drawing a blank. I just moved near Broad Run, but haven't explored any of it yet. Please help me out. I really, truly and honestly just want to put a smile on my best friend's face. Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted March 10, 2016 Super User Posted March 10, 2016 Sounds like your heart is in the right place. Good luck. And....while I appreciate unique posts....yours is one of the 'uniquer' ones I've read here. 2 Quote
hoodedmonkey Posted March 10, 2016 Author Posted March 10, 2016 It was a very freak accident, and I've pretty much gone from the baddest nature chick I know, to being terrified of venturing out into nature alone, overnight. But I'm determined to do this, so it's time to put on my outside clothes and pull up my big girl panties and get'er done! I dont like the idea of exploring a new place alone, but I just want to see him smile again. Quote
BareHook Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 There are several fishing apps for smart phone that are surprisingly entertaining as well. Prayers for a swift recovery Ken Quote
hoodedmonkey Posted March 10, 2016 Author Posted March 10, 2016 When he gets to the point of being able to hold his arms up high enough to see the phone I'll totally hook him up I'm off to find him some tiny fish. Quote
hoodedmonkey Posted March 10, 2016 Author Posted March 10, 2016 With a little bit of skill, a small amount of trudging, and a couple of pointers from a world record holding angler and all around nice guy, I'm happy to report I got my babies 1 Quote
