WdyCrankbait Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 I'm getting that giddy feeling here in VA with the temps in the upper 70's this week, and lows in the high 50's the bass are going to start getting more active! I caught one yesterday at a local pond, first one of the year and best looking fish I ever saw, hahah! Who else is with me? I got my flipping stick, Revo Rocket out, and put 17# fluro on her today, looking purdy! Spring is right around the corner! 10 Quote

Super User Gundog Posted March 9, 2016 Super User Posted March 9, 2016 Here in Pennsylvania we just had our 2nd day of above 60 degree temps so I've restrung my reels and am ready. Heading out to the Susquehanna river tomorrow. If I get anything I'll post it here when I can. 2 Quote

Ersteman Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 I'm right there with you, Woody. Getting my rods and reels ready for a weekend of fishing. Today it's going to be 74 here in Pittsburgh, so the feeling is definitely going to be in the air. Going to hit up a little pond to see the activity levels. Hitting the lakes Sat and Sun. Good luck fishing! Gundog, let me know how you do on the Susky. I've been wanting to take a trip out there this year sometime. 1 Quote
Super User Spankey Posted March 9, 2016 Super User Posted March 9, 2016 I'm right there with you also. I have a little down time now because of recent carpal tunnel surgery. Reorganized a few crankbait boxes and made a modification to my line spooling station. But I'm ready. I can't cast quite yet or shotgun for sporting clays. Two more weeks of healing I should be ready for fishing and work. Might paint some jig heads today, and see what is all involved with making my own 3 - 3 1/2" craws and some finesse worms. This is something I've been wanting to do for years. But never researched it 1 Quote
OddChase Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 People are catching smallies in the rivers in Central Indiana so the lakes should be warming up soon! Tight lines all. 1 Quote

Smokinal Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 Getting giddy? Are you kidding? I'm driving my wife and everyone else around me nuts with talk of fishing, air hooksets, baits all over the house etc... We are still frozen over here but the ice is pretty black. With the forecast of 50's and 60's and rain this week, we'll be open by the weekend. I'll let it get some sun on it for a week, let me heal up from surgery for another week and we should be jerkin some baits on the 20th!! Man am I pumped!! 3 Quote
Airman4754 Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 It's snowing like a bat out of hell as I type this. It won't get good around here until May. Sadly, I have to be out of the country for pretty much the whole month of May. Ugh. Quote
Brayberry Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 I went scouting on my local lake today. Sound a ton of bass cruising, a few were even paired up already. Water temps were between 59 - 63. I'm in Virginia as well 2 Quote
lo n slo Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 surface water temps here on Lake Norman (western NC) are still in the low 50's despite the recent soaring air temps. but expect water temps to begin to slowly come around day by day. some fish are trying to move up but the vast majority appear to be holding off shore. Norman has muddied up too, which is uncharacteristic of this impoundment. in some places visibility is less than one foot. we've been having OK days and not so good days the last two weeks. still grinding out some fish though. Super User Raul Posted March 9, 2016 Super User Posted March 9, 2016 It´s great spring is finally around the corner, with temps in the high 60´s low 80´s this winter has been brutal. Quote

Planning to attempt to get out either tomorrow, Friday, and/or Saturday. No flippin' sticks in my arsenal, but my Stradic setups and Chronarch 50e setup are ready for any size bass. C'mon now! 1 Quote

I've been wanting to take a trip out there this year sometime. Well I didn't have a good day. I got up late, got my tackle together and only had a few hours before work so I hit my best spots. The river was lower than normal and clearer than it usually is. I tried every lure I brought with me. Everything from tubes and deer hair jigs to spinner baits and swim baits and nothing worked. The upside is the temps are going to be above average for the next 3 days so by saturday or sunday I should be able to catch a few. This time of year if you can get 5 or 6 days of warm temps (between 60-70 for highs) bass will start to feed up for spawning. I'll post again when I get some fish. Quote

Interesting that none of those techniques worked. Yah, I'm hoping this warming spell will get the bass to move up and feed. Gonna hit some ponds this weekend, maybe today if it's not raining. Quote
