I'm trying to pick up some fish on spinnerbaits this year.I mostly fish shallow weedy lakes that are fairly clear. What would be your choice if you could only take one spinnerbait?

I don't know if I would throw something too large in size. Personally I would probably be tossing a 3/8 oz spinnerbait to help keep the bait from getting buried in the weeds. SK offers a burner series spinnerbait that may be a good choice if you want to fish the bait fast and high.

White or Chartuese/White 3/8oz colorado/Willow leaf combo.  Gold willow, silver colorado and carry a #4 extra colorado blade incase I want to change out the willow to give it more thump instead of flash and allow me to slow it down as well.

If you have super clear try burning a 3/8oz by their faces in a white bleeding or white / char combo.  By doing this the bass will have less time to react and you'll probably get a reaction bite.  If it's windy which is what I really like I can fish it closer to the surface and they won't get a good look at it and I'll get bit.  That's what works for me!!

a chatterbait is better around weeds b/c you can rip it and it will vibrate weeds right off. I don't like spinnerbaits around weeds b/c they are like static cling and waste half my cast due to stowaways. the only time I like a spinnerbait over chatter is around chunk rock.  the long arm of the SB deflects rock much better vs the chatter head which wedges deep

Snagless Sally inline 3/8 ounce...not your normal inline spinner, awesome in weedly ponds and lakes, pricey but worth it..Hildebrant which I think is Wordens? I have a bunch but they are older, Terminator makes one as well but not as weedless from my experience, but I like bucktail this time of year....Chatterbait is a good choice as mentioned above.

The Sally has weedguards...That helps, plus they make double blades, single, easy to change skirts, well worth the $7.99 price tag.

In clear water, you want flash.  In dark water, you want thump.  Colorado blades are great if it muddies up, but Willow will serve you much better the clearer the water gets.  Go with colors likely to be visible and match local bait.  White/blue, and sunfish patterns are popular for southern clear water.  Also, under most conditions I wuldn't fish anything over 1/2 oz in 5' or less unless I am absolutely burning it in. Usually if I need more resistance, a grub or small paddle tail makes a great trailer and increases the profile.  If it's super clear and I really want fast reaction strikes, I may throw 3/4oz and bring it in fast right below the surface.

I make my own spinnerbaits and for the situation you proposed here is what I'd take for a shallow weedy lake with fairly clear water. It would be the War Eagle Double Willow spinnerbait in a 3/8oz model in pros choice or silver shiner patterns. The reason is the bullet head comes through weeds really well and that weight will be heavy enough for good cast but keep it from sinking too fast and getting buried in weeds. The colors and blade selection is because of clear water where flash will work more in your favor and colors like white and chartreuse can be too bright in clear water situations, so that is my pick.

One of the best spinnerbaits I've ever thrown in grass is Rattle Head. Don't know what happened but they were a sponsor here?

To me it depends on what you consider "fairly clear". My blade type would be determined more by that than anything. My choice would probably be a 3/8oz Terminator T-1 in something like a pb&j but I'd swap out the back blade to an Oklahoma blade if it was overcast and windy, or back to the willow if it wasn't as overcast or if the water color is more on the clear side.

Any strike King spinner will do well. If you're fishing for smallies, they LOVE black spinner baits with silver blades.

The silver blades in the clear Water will attract the bass from far.

If your fishing shallow weeds like you're describing tho I would definitely give a buzz bait a go as well.

For shallow weedy waters -broken cover- my absolute favorite is (was) the Strike King Grass King. Hate to say it, (I have a hard time even choking the words out) but they don't make it anymore. And apparently they won't. I've written them several times. You should write them too. We should start a campaign. "Bring back the Grass King!!!"

Since I switched to War Eagle spinnerbaits for all conditions, my hook up ratio has gone up significantly, especially in the weed filled lakes down here.

1/4 oz Chartreuse & White.  Throw a trailer on for a little more bulk.
