Balshy Fishing Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 Heading out to Safe Harbor up past Lancaster, PA and setup a Carolina Rig on my Medium Heavy rod. Now, I have 30lb PowerPro braid on that rod and use a 12lb Seaguar Floro leader. My big question is(because I can't remember for the life of me), do I go braid tied directly to leader to weight & bead to swivel to other leader? Probably a very dumb question but for the life of me, I cannot remember. Thanks yall! Quote
blckshirt98 Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 Thread weight onto braid. Thread bead onto braid. Tie swivel to end of braid. Tie leader to other end of swivel. Tie hook to end of leader. 4 Quote

Unless you are using buoyant plastics then disregard. 1 Quote
papajoe222 Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 Like they said and I recommend mono, because it retains more of it's rated break strength than fluoro when nicked. Trust me, if you're fishing shell beds or rip-rap, you'll be getting nicks in that leader so keep checking it. You won't be loosing anything in the way of sensitivity unless you go extra long with your leader. 1 Quote
RyneB Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 I only use mono as my leader, it has stretch and floats. I just seem to get more bites than with fluoro or copolymer. 1 Quote
Balshy Fishing Posted March 6, 2016 Author Posted March 6, 2016 Thanks guys. I knew something seemed weird with how I just set it up haha Quote
tracker01 Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 Good luck. I live in Lancaster Co. I could help you some with Safe Harbor. I just use mono and fish from Safe Harbor down to the Holtwood dam. Depending on where you put in, you might not have to go far to catch fish. I haven't been there this year yet, so let me know how you make out. 1 Quote

primetime Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 C-rig is awesome from shore.....Brass weights often help...I like a straight shank worm hook that only has the small barbs on it that Gamakatsu makes..Since I cast them far and like heavy weights, thin wire works best, and easy to rig a straight tai worm perfectly straight which matters. I use Fluoro if around wood or rock for abrasion resistance but copoly is probably what I use most since I carry more of it when shore fishing than fluoro in lighter lb tests since hybrid 10 is really 16lb test... Watched a video from LunkersTV on YouTube where he ties mono and flouro leaders on a c-rig and with various lengths and the underwater footage shows very little, if not zero difference between the two leaders and the action of the bait/buoyancy. It all depends on water depth and maybe clarity that you should base your leader off of. If you're fishing deep I'd go with flouro to get a more positive hook set and shallow I would use mono because you don't need the near-zero stretch of flouro for a positive hook set. And it's cheaper, so when you don't need to use your expensive fluorocarbon leader material, why use it? Quote

papajoe222 Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 The near zero stretch of fluoro is a misconception. Both mono and fluoro will 'stretch'. The big difference there is that mono will return to its original configuration. Quote
