NateFollmer Posted September 3, 2010 Posted September 3, 2010 Nice looking cranks! I like cedar bodies, I know some people split them, but I haven't had any issues yet Quote
Fishwhittler Posted September 4, 2010 Author Posted September 4, 2010 Thanks! String, the proto had a tight action when I tested it, but the 3d angry eyes may change the action, possibly quite a bit. I put some on a rattlin' rapala once, and they just ruined the action, but I think this bait is large enough to counteract most of the effects of the eyes. Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted September 4, 2010 Super User Posted September 4, 2010 Wow, awesome job... that's some talent. Quote

Fishwhittler Posted September 24, 2010 Author Posted September 24, 2010 Beautiful work , outstanding paint, clear is out of reach. I dont see a spec of dirt or lint What a job #1 I wont ask about the clear , that's yours Those mad eyes look great on those lures The clear coat I use is no secret: Trondak U-40 LS Supreme High Build. Now, however, I'm switching to the medium-build version. The high-build is a little too thick for some of the baits I do, and also I think the slightly thinner version will be easier to mix bubble-free. I did some testing, and the 3d eyes don't affect the action on these baits. They all have a nice, tight action and they float quickly when paused. Thanks all you guys. 8-) BTW I caught a 10" crappie on the Mad Purple Craw version I did of this bait. Not what I was expecting, but I'll take it. Quote
WoolleyBass Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 Hey Fishwhittler is that trondak clear as easy to get as devcon? Also is it any cheaper? Roby Quote
Fishwhittler Posted December 18, 2010 Author Posted December 18, 2010 Hey Fishwhittler is that trondak clear as easy to get as devcon? Also is it any cheaper? Roby I get it from Mudhole.com. It's pretty cheap in the bigger sizes; you can get 32 ounces for $45 and that will last for a long time. I've found it necessary to use U-40 Color Lock before top-coating with U-40 LS Supreme medium build. You will get fish eyes with LS Supreme medium build unless you use Color Lock first. I found that out the hard way... :-X The only other downside to using LS Supreme is that it takes 24 hours to dry tack-free, and up to a week to fully cure. It cures faster at warmer temperatures, but it still takes five days to reach full strength. Quote
