lecisnith Posted March 5, 2016 Posted March 5, 2016 It is obvious that I am the only on stupid enough to drive 15 minutes in a snow shower on slick roads just to get to Gander Mountain to take advantage of the promotions. 10 minutes early and I'm the only one in the parking lot. Yep, I'm an idiot. 6 Quote

mrmacwvu1 Posted March 5, 2016 Posted March 5, 2016 I hopped in the car and drove 58 miles one way yesterday to go to a little tackle shop that I always liked. Got there and they were out of business. Turned around and came home. Quote

But before you said what you got... well one tow truck fee or fender bender could have changed the whole perception of the day. 1 Quote

That is my credo. I have been incident free going on 15 years of winter driving. 1 Quote

Super User bigbill Posted March 6, 2016 Super User Posted March 6, 2016 Your not alone after watching Hank Parker on that big lake in NH killing smallies when I first started bass fishing it was a blizzard here when I drove to Walmart and purchased the whole rack of the Manns baby 1 minus in brown craw. I had to have that bait. I gave two to my sons. I named it the "HANK PARKER SPECIAL" 1. Manns baby 1 minus, brown craw, Hank Parker special. This one just fast enough to wiggle it. 2. Rapala orginal minnow F7 blue,. Blue Max. Try this one as dark becomes twilight in the early am. Twitch it. Quote

Super User Oregon Native Posted March 7, 2016 Super User Posted March 7, 2016 Congrats...you know how to drive in the snow. When living out west we never let some snow slow us down for going steelhead fishing. Never had a problem. Congrats Quote
Super User everythingthatswims Posted March 7, 2016 Super User Posted March 7, 2016 For the most part, people I see wrecked in the snow did something stupid. A couple weeks ago someone managed to end up in the woods on the other side of the road because I guess they let a tire slip off one side and thought the world was going to end (and overcorrected REALLY badly). It was 45 degrees out and the snow absolutely could not stick to the road, but someone found a way to wreck. I work at a Gander Mountain and my last shift was spent packing those little gift boxes haha. 1 Quote

S. Sass Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 Every time it snows here in n.e. Texas my northern in-laws always say us southerners don't know how to drive in it. I just want to know how anyone up north ever wrecks since the are so perfect. Quote

Absolutely not.....not many people now days go out in inclement weather. Personally ... I love it and always have. So, good for you and enjoy your passion. I once drove over two hours to go steelhead fishing out of Astoria in my mustang with studs on the back. I was the only car on the road and making the first tracks. Fishing was awesome....believe I hooked 19 steelhead that day. But then that was over forty years ago.. Thanks for bringing back memories. With today's mindset and with so many experts in everything...including how to manage our own lives, well........ Enjoy your day...they are a gift from above. Quote

Super User Master Bait'r Posted March 8, 2016 Super User Posted March 8, 2016 Glad to hear the wife wasn't REALLY stuck out there! Crazy though, when I saw that on TV I was just like "You've got to be kidding me". As for me, I actually prefer to go shopping when the snow is falling. People tend to stay home and I can casually grocery shop or thumb through fishing gear without a single elbow to bump into or cart to block my way. Heck, last time we got snow and I went grocery shopping, I had a cashier flag me into their lane they were so bored haha... Being overly prepared for inclement weather is truly an underrated luxury. Can't even tell you the brownie points I've gained over the years simply keeping a shovel & tow strap in my spare tire well and a bucket of road salt in the back. Quote
